Just saying.
Yes but there is a difference, the wife in that thread is a saint, the sister in my news story is a harpy.

I've been here long enough to know that TCF1's wife isn't a saint. I'm not saying she's a bad person, but she's as imperfect as anybody else.

I am a transplantee myself and am very disturbed by this story. Donating organs or bonemarrow is and must be completely voluntary, and should also be private. I could easily appreciate people refusing to be tested for compatability after reading this. I hope this man realises the possible damage his actions may cause. I certainly wouldn't be tested for his sake knowing that I would be hung out in the press afterwards if I decided not to donate.

The damage he could cause? If I were in his position I would also bring what ever means I could to bear to get me the tissues I needed.
If that means publicly humiliating someone into to doing it so be it.
I would do that for anyone in my family and I would do that to anyone I needed to.

So the ends justify the means?

Maybe she hates needles....it is EXTREMELY unfair to criticize someone for not wanting to go through this procedure.
The fact that she will not comment on the story is significant.

The friend that had it done told me it was extremely painful. Enough so that he'd not do it for anyone else. He first went through a series of exams etc, and then was put on specific medications for 7 days prior (iirc). He had to lay on a bed for close to 8 hours while they extracted the marrow. He wasn't allowed to move a muscle. If he had an itch, they scratched it. If he had to go to the bathroom, it was taken care of by them. He was also told that when they were done, if they didn't get enough marrow that day, then he'd have to go through it all again the next day. he said he's rather die than go through that again. Thankfully, they got what they needed.
They also downplayed how sicj he would be aftwerwards. They told him he'd be a little sick for a few days after. That he would have flu like symptoms. He couldn't work for 3 weeks because he was so sick.
I'm sure i'm forgetting some of what he told me, but that's pretty much it. I just remember him saying the pain was almost unbearable, but that it wasn't just that. It was not being able to move for so long as well as being so sick afterwards.

wow thats pretty bad.
Needless to say I wouldnt ask any of my loved ones to go throught this for me. But considering that the guy IS asking for his life and the wellbeing of his family and he is being refused by his own blood relative is unusually apaulling. Say what you will about the woman having every right to refuse the procedure, but her descision has made her a witch.

You know NOTHING about the personal lives of these people! How do you feel comfortable repeatedly posting terrible things about someone who you know so little about?
What does this say about you?

You don't have a right to other people's property, and that includes their organs.

Re: grrr... humanity is pathetic
I agree. While I might personally give marrow or blood or even an organ and it sounds kind of nasty not to help your own brother out, I fully support her right not to do it. What if we lived in a world where we didn't have a choice? The Kidney Draft? I don't think so. People are basically good, no matter how cynical individual events can make us.
Methinks the fact that they aren't close now has a lot to do with this. What happened during their childhood?

There was obviously already a problem here...who runs to the press in such a situation?

Well the day time "talk"shows make their living off it so apparently there are quite a few people willing to take a private matter and have someone do an exposé on it.
