Timbermaw - Exalted

At level 65, Sebaceous finally got to exalted with the Timbermaw. You get a nifty trinket and 500 rep with each faction in the Alliance (or Horde).  Plus there are tailoring, leatherworking and blacksmithing plans that become available at various reputations.  Of course with TBC out now, these high 50s blue recipes aren't very useful anymore.  There's one still useful tailoring pattern that teaches you how to make a netherweave net, which will prevent runners.  Sebaceous had three stacks of beads before TBC so I went ahead and finished it. wink  Salagacious is still grinding through to honored for the +15 agility to gloves enchantment.

The way to exalted with the Timbermaw starts in southern Felwood when your toons are in their low 50s.  There's a furbolg beside a large tree along the path as you head north.  Complete all his quests.

When you get to northern Felwood there's another furbie on the left side of the entrance to the tunnel (a.k.a. Timbermaw Hold) leading to Moonglade and Winterspring.  Do all his quests and you should be safe to walk through the tunnels.  Do NOT go through the tunnel until you are half way up 'unfriendly' with the Timbermaw or the Timbermaw will attack you.  You don't want to fight them.  If you kill a Timbermaw you lose 100 rep.  Recovering from that requires killing 16 Deadwood or Winterfall fubies (6 rep each).  I killed my way to Moonglade and Winterspring with Sagall.  It took a looong time to recover from that.   There are also Timbermaw in Azshara.  Don't kill those either. It gets easier when you hit neutral and the Timbermaw have a yellow instead of a red glow around them.  At that point you can at least tell more easily which ones you shouldn't kill.

The Deadwood furbies in Felwood will drop a lot of deadwood headdress feathers and one deadwood ritual totem,a random drop.  Stockpile those for later.  You can discard the totem and grab another later if bank bag slots are precious to you.

When you exit the tunnels on the Winterspring side, you'll find another furbie on the right side of the exit.  Complete all those quests.  Turn in one bunch of winterfall spirit beads so the quest becomes repeatable.  After that stockpile all the beads.  Don't turn any more in until later.  The higher level winterfall furbies have a higher chance of dropping beads than the lower level ones.  Stockpile or discard until later the winterfall ritual totem as was done with the other totem.

Be sure and also do the juju quests (starts at the troll witchdoctor in Everlook)so you can also get e'ko from the mobs in Winterspring.  Be careful not to accidentally attack the tauren NPC standing next to her. Winterfall e'ko when converted to juju gives a nice strength buff, great for grinding furbies.

If you want to grind with the Wintersaber Trainers for the nice purple cat mount, do that concurrently also.  A portion of that effort has you killing Winterfall shamans.  So you'll get rep for two groups  for part of the grind.

If your ultimate goal is exalted don't do any additional quests (some are given by NPCs in Timbermaw Hold) and don't turn in any more deadwood feathers or winterfall beads yet.  Grind Timbermaw rep from here on out by killing Winterspring furbies.  Mobs that are grey to you only give 1 rep.  Mobs that are green give 5 rep and yellow or orange mobs give 6 rep.  Chief Winterfall gives 25 rep.  So beat up the chief at every opportunity.  At level 65 Sebaceous only got 5 rep from level 57 and up mobs, which is a very small group of furbies on the upper area of Winterfall Village near the chief's cave and on the ridge to the south of the village. In other words its easiest to grind while your toons are levels 59-64.

Grind away on the Winterfall furbolg until you hit revered.  This took me about three months doing it only until I got bored with it, i.e. every few days.  By that time you will have amassed several stacks of 250 beads each.  At revered you will no longer get any rep from killing furbies.  Don't bother stockpiling more than 5 1/2 stacks of 250 beads and feathers.  You can turn in the excess while grinding to revered if you have 5 1/2 stacks in the bank.

Herbalists, tailors and miners will also pick up plenty of materials for their professions.  Icecap, rich thorium veins and runecloth are frequently found in Winterfall village.  There is also a solid chest that can appear in four locations around the village.  I made about 1K gold selling drops and ore during the grind.

Once you reach revered go turn in all your stacks of beads and feathers, turn in the totems and do the quests given in Timbermaw Hold.  There's a vendor that will sell patterns available at different faction levels.  He is also a tailor trainer.    If you're a tailor, the Timbermaw give a unique quest that requires turning in two pieces of mooncloth for access to a special pattern.  The turn-ins and quests will boost you to exalted.

Your last two Timbermaw quests, available only once you achieve exalted, are given by Gorn, One Eye.   You'll be sent back to Chief Winterfall's cave to summon the demon Xandivious who is corrupting the Winterfall.  The demon doesn't spawn inside the cave.  He spawns down the hill, so watch for him to come up the road.  Even at level 65 my hunter needed help with this.  The demon is a 62 elite and has a nature damage aura that hits pretty hard.  I maxed out my pet's nature resistance and stood way back so my hunter didn't take any damage.  I still burned through all my mana healing my pet and required help from a 59 rogue to kill the demon.  In retrospect maybe I should have kited him instead.   The reward from this quest gives the Defender of the Timbermaw trinket and a follow up quest.  Go talk to the King in Iron Forge to get 500 rep with each faction of the Alliance (or King in Orgrimmar for Horde).   Be prepared for several WTF? queries in chat since most peeps have never heard King Bronzebeard ever yell anything. wink

That info is from ages ago (like 15+ months)…

Also, netherweave nets are just trainable to any tailor.

Re: Timbermaw - Exalted

heheh, now try to get that Winterspring Nightsaber mount ;D. Now that one is hell on earth since you can't stockpile.

Gratz on finishing timbermaw tho. I had always thought about it but then I got to go on raids more often and I wanted to focus on them.

Re: Timbermaw - Exalted

Yeah, I passed on the wintersaber mount since you have to go back and forth to the trainer every time.

True Conner.  However this is in one nice post as opposed to having to find it in several places.  In particular I could never find out how many beads I needed to stack up.  One site said seven.  I found its only really 5 1/2 stacks provided you save the timbermaw quests for later.

Re: Timbermaw - Exalted

What's the point, though? I don't really like how TBC made all the old level 60 stuff completely worthless. I just ground up a blood elf paladin, and I have absolutely no incentive to even glance at Blackrock Mountain, Dire Maul, Scholomance, Zul'Gurub, or any of the 60s instances and raids, let alone the pre-existing reputation grinds (CC, AD, TM, etc). I hope Blizzard revisits that stuff someday and adds some sort of "heroic" option.

Not all of the Zul'Gurub enchants are totally worthless.

But would you grind all the way up to exalted to get them at this point?

Re: Timbermaw - Exalted

Eh, it doesn't really take all that long.  And I'm sure you could 10 man it.

I have a feeling that in the next few months we'll see many of the older dungeons redone for heroics.

Re: Timbermaw - Exalted

Question: How many hours of your life have you spent on getting to Exalted.

Some might have gotten further in master's degrees, making millions.  Just a perspective, I'm a guilty addict too.
