What's the best usage for arcane crystals these days? I've picked up a few and wondered if its still best to make arcanite.

If they are still selling for decent price on the AH then there is still a use. Blizz hasn't totally upgraded everything. Heck orbs still sell and probably will continue to sell for awhile longer cause some of the mats for the new enchants are just insane.

The price on arcane crystals has dropped a little since TBC. They used to be around 16 G each and now they're just under 10 G. That's good for me. I'm making arcanite dragonlings for my engineering toons. Sebaceous recently acquired the arcanite dragonling plans if any of you want one. Toons must be level 50 minimum to equip an arcanite dragonling.

I noticed the alchemy transmutation cool down for arcanite is only one day now. yay!

I think they upped the crystal drop rate too.

Another thing might be that the crystals can be Prospected for. That might screw up
the economy a little bit. They sell on Scilla's AH for about 1/2 the price that they used to.

Well it doesn't really matter as they aren't exactly the high end item they used to be. And crusader really doesn't scale well at all past 60 (great for your low level melee though).

You need arcanite to complete your paladin epic mount quest.

Actually, the Scilla server has quite the volatile pricing at the AH of late. I was able to sell one crystal for 19g. I had the lowest priced one out of 10 up there. I found that a great deal for me. big_smile
The next day I found that most of the crystals were around 10g each. I found that arcanite bars are selling for about 150% the price of acrane crystals right now. I am desperate to raise my ability in alchemy to be able to do this. (Almost there).
I do however agree the overall pricing has dropped since TBC. The gem market has dropped in pricing so much lately. I guess I should've sold all my gems before the expansion or right at the time of the expansion. cry

Right after the expansion would have been best when the rich toons didn't want to bother mining their own gems and ore. In that first week I remember the minimum price for mere shadowgems was 1 G each. I used to vendor those. I've noted a steady drop in the price of ore over the last couple weeks. Prices are almost back to where they were before TBC.

arcane crystals can drop from small thorium veins as well as rich thorium veins. That combined with the overall lessened need for them partly explains the drop in price.

I gave the 20 or so i had away to guildies who still needed to get naxx attuned so we could run it w/ our 70s
