Refurbished MacBooks

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone here has purchased a refurbished MacBook. I'm in the market now to buy another laptop to join my iBook and replace an old Celeron Dell desktop for circa 2002. Now that Applestore Canada sells refurbished I was wondering what the quality is like. Since laptops are moved around alot are they scratched up and worn looking, or does Apple replace those pieces before they sell them. The reason I'm asking is that the refurbished PCs and Monitors I've seen in stores look like they have been through the wringer.

Re: Refurbished MacBooks

Apple's refurb section rocks. I am typing on a refurb MacBook Pro 15" C2D now. It doesnt come in the original black box, but it does have all the paperwork and accessories. No scratches. Full warranty like new, and you can get Applecare. Please do yourself a favor and don't worry, just buy man! - Chris aka " speedy"

Not to mention that if they don't have the exact model in stock, you might get a surprise bonus.

Thanks for clicking.

Re: Refurbished MacBooks

Thanks for the input. That seems to be the consensus around the net that Apple's refurbished are just like brand new, but in a brown box. Now my only dilema is that I thought all of Apple's computers were waiting on Leopard, but now that its been delayed, I think the hold up is Santa Rosa. The latest rumours put it coming out in May. So I'm thinking I should wait and not get buyers remorse if the MacBook gets updated in a few weeks. Also I work in the education field and I'm approved for the educational discount. My last purchase was the last iBook G4 that came with a free iPod Mini back in summer of 2005. Oh decisions, decisions.

Re: Refurbished MacBooks

There is always something better, faster, cheaper and shinier around the corner. Buy it, and don't regret it.

BTW, all I buy is refurbs and they are fantastic.

You have an absolutely breath-taking... heiney. I mean, that thing's good. I wanna be friends with it.

Re: Refurbished MacBooks

YOu will not get the new models on the refurb side for a while....go ahead and buy now if you are ready....as Muck said, there is always somethin better around the corner, so if you are always wanting the latest, you will never buy.

Re: Refurbished MacBooks

Well the refurbished store in Canada is now completely empty expect for a MacBook Pro 17" which I'm not in the market for. Man the store was full under every category yesterday. Oh well I'm sure more will show up.

Re: Refurbished MacBooks

When getting my 15" MBP C2D, I had the same problem: the store would be emtpy by the time I was ready. You'd do well to wake up early to get what you want. The US store was usually updated by 10 am ish. Check it often in the morning as they go quick as hell.

Re: Refurbished MacBooks

I got the 15" MBP C2D. I compared the specs of what was available in there at the time and went with it at $1349.00, helluva bargain if you ask me. It shipped with 512 in ram. I ordered a 2 gig ram kit from Macsales.com for $150.00, cheaper then what Apple wanted with that much ram added. When I was looking 3 weeks ago there was plenty to choose from. Just about every model was available. You really have to check every day.

Re: Refurbished MacBooks

Well I finally bought the MacBook. I didn't go refurbished, but I got the previous black version after the updated ones came out. It was $1299 CAN, regularly $1649 CAN. Now my biggest problem is moving all my wife's email from Outlook Express (Dell PC) to entourage 2004 (iBook G4), it looks like there is no way other than resending your self emails you want to keep.

I figured out the outlook issue. Just download Thunderbird on the PC and have it import the Outlook files and then copy the new .mbox file to the mac and import into Mail then import that into Entourage (some reason entourage didn't like the .mbox files?).
