posting using iWeb to non mac servers with full image sizes

A  two part question...

I like the look and feel of the iWeb posting, but I have two issues...

1. I'd like to post using the full size of my images -- iWeb seems to scale them down... I have lovely 2.6 mega pix camera and would like the full images... be nice to have the thumbnail and then a smaller picture that then if you clicked on took you to the LARGE ones...

2. I'd like to post to a non mac.com page. I have tried to save to a folder and then move the directories to the  site. The page format didn't look good and the slide show wasn't the snazzy one that I like, and I have published to mac.com and then moved that directory -- that had way too much tied to my personal mac.com page for my comfort.

any ideas or suggestions??

Re: posting using iWeb to non mac servers with full image sizes

first off, this will probably get moved to the web development section of the forum.

to answer your questions:

1. do you have a very good reason to want to put the full 2.6 megapixel image up on your site?? first off, if you have a lot of them, you'll run into storage issues. second, anyone would be able to rip them off and use them - even for high end print jobs. basically, i would really recommend against doing this.

2. that's kind of the trade off of moving to a non-.mac web server. the "snazzy slideshow" only works when published to a .mac server. if you export to a folder and upload that to another server, you get a watered down slideshow. as for the format, that shouldn't be affected at all.

what i would suggest is trying to come up with a second .mac username. i don't think you have to get a full blown second account, but i think you can get more than one username. then use that .mac space for your seperate site. i'm not a .mac expert - does anyone know if that is possible? or am i way off base?

Well the other site is password protected and it has TONs of space -- that is why I wanted to move off of the mac.com site.

and I'd have moved  this topic myself if I could find that option. So I double posted... My bad I know.. but first posts -- hope I can be forgiven.

Now you know... we'll move it if it fits better somewhere else. If you can't wait for it to be noticed, you can use the report button on the bottom of the post. smile

The topic in WD&D.
