Halo v2.0.2 - patch out

MacSoft finally got around to patching Mac Halo again. Hopefully this fixes the UB once and for all.

Halo 2.0.2 Patch Released
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse

Macsoft has released a new patch for Halo. Version 2.0.2 offers performance enhancements and fixes several bugs. The patch will update the Universal Binary version of the game from 2.0 to 2.02.

This update improves performance for PowerPC based systems and some Intel systems, fixes graphical errors, custom multiplayer game type issues and also allows the program to run properly from a case-sensitive drive. Version 2.0.2 also fixes an issue with the "A" key and incorporates a VSYNC fix.

To download the update head over to Macgamefiles.com at the link below.

Re: Halo v2.0.2 - patch out

Yes! They fixed the audio output problems and fixed the lens flare glitch. I can now turn on lens flare, even to extreme, and not hit 1fps.

Re: Halo v2.0.2 - patch out

I decide to do a time demo, and there was a surprising fps boost after this patch. (The increase in performance could be due to the fact that I now have 3GB of RAM, but I doubt Halo is using all of that)

The top test is before the latest patch, the bottom test is the latest patch.

Re: Halo v2.0.2 - patch out

cry

Does anyone have Network Connection Lost problem with HALO UB. Seems I have had them since version 2.0. Now with 2.0.2 I still get lag drop in game play and its not the network. I have Ports open on 2302 and 2303 for TCP and UCP plus Port Forward and Trigger for that port. I just dont understand why I am getting these drops in connection in the middle of a multiplayer game. HELP!!!!!!

Re: Halo v2.0.2 - patch out

I haven't had that problem. Are you connected to the internet wirelessly? Halo doesn't play too well with a lot of packet loss.

No I have a hard line connection to my NETGEAR Cable/DSL Router RP614, which in the past never gave me problem with halo on my PPC G5. I have noticed this problem since I upgraded to 2.0.

Hmmm, very odd. I would email support at MacSoft Games. They have always been very helpful with bugs I've had with Halo and Unreal Tournament in the past.

Right, it shouldn't be anywhere near that. OSX is a RAM hog, but Halo per se isn't; half that should be enough for peak performance.

Great results, MM. Best we've seen. Someone finally beat my old mark after only 3 years smile ... sorry to take so long getting back to this. Things here just haven't let up, or I'd've been Halo- and H2ing with you folks. Finally looks close, think I'll get the machine ready for OS and software installs today with any luck. Ready not long after that.

Looks like Mac Halo is finally starting to use the 1900XT's potential, and especially impressive is the small amount of time spent at lower framerates. Too bad there can't be an option for environmental sound.... did you have any options like FSAA and/or AF set? If so how much?

Anyway, good show and quite a gain. Look forward to comparing; should be interesting to see how Mac and PC Halo compare. You have a more powerful platform and the same videocard, so results should make for good reading.

Too bad I never got a bench run done after ATi found a missed z-buffer optimization in their drivers that boosted Halo performance nearly 25% in Summer of '05. Should've jumped my X800 XT PE fps to over 70 at 1600x1200. It was pegging the counter on vsync (70) around Infinity and other places at that time, I recall.

H2V perf should be interesting too. Haven't heard of an H2V benchmark, tho.

Re: Halo v2.0.2 - patch out

Wow, three years. Has it been that long? Oh yeah, my FSAA was on 5x sampling, and my Lens Flare was set to extreme and Model Detail was of course High.

I would love to see a Halo 2 Vista benchmark. I still have to pick up a copy. hmm

Re: Halo v2.0.2 - patch out

Just ran the time demo on my Macbook Air, and as I thought I would not recommend the Air as a gaming machine. big_smile But, it ran surprisingly really well at max settings and 800x600. But, here is max settings at 1200 x 800:

Re: Halo v2.0.2 - patch out

I just saw this, looking for info on the latest version of Mac Halo.

Oh. My. God. eek

Outputting half the pixels, Apple's latest/greatest can run Mac Halo at 1/4/ - 1/5 the framerate my BIY from '04 can run Halo PC. Heaven help it if it had to render MRTs in the Campaign maps; the Timedemo seems to... be like you said. smile

Haha, yeah the MBA's graphics capabilities are a joke. But, I just got my 8800GT in the Mac Pro and here are the time demo results with the same max settings as the last Mac Pro time demo:

Looks like I didn't gain two much with this card on the Mac side. But, performance has jumped leaps and bounds on the windows side. Especially in Assassin's Creed and Crysis.
