Aspyr: ET Quake Wars + 2 other games

Aspyr is keeping the ET Quake Wars Mac build in line with the PC build. They also say they have 2 other titles in the mix, including one that has a genera never before seen on the Mac and one from a more popular brand. No news as to whether they are going to be Intel only or not, but seeing that Empire at War was Intel only, I'd say the chances are good.

It's interesting that the ET:QW Public Beta just kicked off two days ago. I  Aspyr's timetable is directly dictated by how that progresses. They can't very well finalize their version until the Beta is finished, right?

Re: Aspyr: ET Quake Wars + 2 other games

Right, and it's kind of qualified...

Aspyr Studios has been working hard keeping Mac builds of Quake Wars up to date with the PC version... Aspyr's goal is to ship Quake Wars Mac very close to the PC release.

I read it as trying to keep close, not on par as in a day or two behind. Still, not lagging badly. Good news overall.

Is anyone else here going to try to get in on the beta when they open it up for non-subscribers tomorrow?

Re: Aspyr: ET Quake Wars + 2 other games

Nope, I ponied up for the first round of keys mid-week. big_smile

It's still very Beta though, not very optimized graphics, and granted I'm not running dual 8800GTS cards or anything (single 6800GT/256 PCI-E actually) but I had to turn everything to Low just to be playable. Be alot more interesting to see the Demo version out, hope it runs more smoothly or I'm looking at more hardware updates.

Good gameplay however. The ET crowd might not embrace it as a suitable replacement, but it's a nice addition to the genre.

Nice. I didn't grab a key today, I was helping a friend with his car, but I'm going to get a key tomorrow.

What's the gameplay like? Compare it to another game that we've probably all played (Battlefield?)

I'd mention something sexual, but the last time I did that in Games the thread was locked.

Nah, definitely not like BF2, it's alot faster, owing itself more to the Quake style. (I bow to no grammar Nazi!) The classes/missions style is all ET which is nice - once you have a team that's aware of that & can adapt properly. Otherwise it's total chaos, and I can't see playing many rounds in the typical public server.

For competitive play though it should make for some great match-ups. I'm hoping there are some maps in the Official Release that are infantry-only as well. If not, I'm sure the Mod Community will step & fill the gap.

hmm

This is what happens when AMC shows Braveheart once too often. Impressionable people... anyway, thanks for helping me recertify. Need to be called a Nazi occasionally to stay on the rolls, even if it is spelling and not grammar (alot, a lot tongue). But, of course, there is a price.

Yeah, what is with AMC doing a Braveheart marathon? Somehow related to July 4?

Re: Aspyr: ET Quake Wars + 2 other games

They haven't "all" been UBs. UBs have only been necessary since the Intel switch; and like the Moto 68k/PPC transition, at some point support for PPCs will end. A fair number of new games are already Intel-only.
