Simple Networking Issue
My house has a somewhat complex setup which looks something like this:
Code:
Modem -> Router -> Switch -1> SwitchHub (->network)
-2> SwitchWLAN (-> network)So the router connects to a small gigabit ethernet switch which connects to a pair of 24-port networking switches that feeds our wired network, AND a wireless router. The router is an old HP running a Debian networking build.
Recently, the first switch in the lineup was stolen, and the wires were trashed a bit, and I have no idea what the configuration should be, or if I even need the first switch.
Here is what I was thinking it should look like:
Code:
Modem -straightthrough> Router -crossover> Switch -crossover1> SwitchHub (->network)
-crossover2> SwitchWLAN (->network)Or, skipping the first switch altogether:
Code:
Modem -straight> Router -straight> SwitchHub (->network with SwitchLAN)
Thanks in advance!

Re: Simple Networking Issue
I'll give it a try.
Simplicity is a plus so if you can remove any switches or routers do it.
I've never heard of a SwitchWLAN. My initial thought is that it is a router with wireless. If you would supply us with model numbers for each device it will surely help.
Modem > wireless router > switch (if you need more ports connect switches using the uplink port)
What do you think?

Re: Simple Networking Issue
Is there some reason, such as documentation that requires cross-over wiring and not straight thru wiring?
