iWork 08
I can't believe there's no thread on this.
We got our spreadsheet app, and it's pretty sweet!
I'm not a power office user so I've loved pages.
I have to do my timesheet on a spreadsheet so now
I can purge my machine of office!
Have you tried repairing permissions?

I like Office, it works well. Word, etc., is slow to launch on Intel but that will be fixed soon.

Re: iWork 08
I've been getting by with OpenOffice just fine. I don't use it terribly often on my personal machine. iWork is getting better though. I wonder how much Apple is limited. I'm sure they had to sign some deal with the devil to get compatibility with MS Office...
It is an odd thing, but every one who disappears is said to be seen at San Francisco. It must be a delightful city, and possess all the attractions of the next world.

I use NeoOffice and love it. If there is something dangerously good about iWork I might buy a copy.

Re: iWork 08
I just loaded a few documents last night, and it's getting better. It's great to have comment and change tracking compatibility with Word. iWork also seems to handle my auto generated tables of contents as well.
That said, it still lacks an outline mode.

For Diehard users.

Heh, requires 24MB of RAM.
That makes me chuckle.
I like that, from a student perspective, iWork can now completely replace Office, and it also undercuts the price. Very interesting...

Updated iWork/iLife prediction.
Could iWork '08 be a trial to see how popular the SW is among most consumers, Later to be merged with the OS (or just bundled), and is fully optimized for Leo?
Thanks for clicking.

It cannot if you are a business or data heavy quantitative discipline student. I will give Apple credit that they have created a very solid software suite, but I think people might be a bit deluded if they think it can replace Office where it truly matters.

I love the 2-4 week shipping time on AppleWorks. They either have to find it and dust it off... or press a new one.

Agreed.
As much as I would love to adopt iWork, it's not there yet. I would cause endless minor compatibility problems for me at work.

That's why I said for students. For those on a budget, it's half the price of Office Student/Teacher 04, and you get the same basic stuff. I know my friend would've jumped on that opportunity if it had been out a month or two ago...

Where at? All I found was "iWork ’08 is now available through the Apple Store® (www.apple.com), Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers for a suggested retail price of $79 (US). A 30-day iWork ’08 trial will be available on new hardware and with copies of iLife® ’08 sold at retail."

I'm sure that it's already set to take advantage of most new technologies in leopard, such as core animation. I do not see apple including it leopard though.

Re: iWork 08
iWork '06 came bundled with my MacBook as a thirty-day demo. The demo ran out but I think I can still use it to open files as read-only. Might I as well get the iWork '08 demo to have an upgraded version of these programs for read-only use? (And get thirty days of full use.)

Re: iWork 08
How come the new iWork is smaller in size? If I get info on my iWork 06, it's about 1.9GB! This new one is less than 500mb.

I suspect it probably written using Core Animation and other much cleaner programming tools that exist in Leopard, where the previous version was written using clunkier stuff like Core Image & Video and Tiger's programming tools.

Right, but for people who run 10.4 does that not mean there will be none of the benifits of these new tools.
