Re: Proposed forum changes: Autumn 2007
An alternative name for Everyday Tech/Help -> Panic Room - When everything else fail
Putting desktop computers in Everyday Tech feels a bit misplaced. It's like saying that using a laptop isn't an everyday tech thing though some people use theire laptops as stationary macs too (me not included, I'm stationary)
Put all the hardware in one section as it is today but maybee move over the Hardware hacking section to general modding or something since it's also very posible to hack the software and gui.
Now, where in the name of... did I put that thing that I forgot what it was and why I was looking for it?

People say there are fewer people posting this time of year every year. It's just one of those things.
I've been watching the amount of users logged on since the switch in January. It's gone down A LOT in both registered users and guests. We've almost come full circle. When does "this time of year" end?

It becomes really noticeable around the summer to fall transition and then picks up a bit for the holidays. Then it repeats again.
I do think some of it had to do with the transition to maclife though.

As if "Balloon Help" wasn't cryptic enough for newbies, now we have "Everyday Tech."
How about a forum titled "OMG help, my smurf is broken"

In all fairness the decided forum titles didn't really make it in for one reason or another (amongst other changes).

Okay, you spent the effort to redo the forum alignment but kept the "All we need is a little energon and a lot of luck." slogan? Sheesh.
I still believe in liberalism today as much as I ever did, but, oh, there was a happy time when I believed in liberals.

Seeing as the Rant Room got sacked, why do we still have the student lounge? Its just an Unplugged clone. Why is FFF stuck at the bottom? Trying to hide it so people can't complain?

Student lounge tends to be more school/teen/young adult oriented. They should have their own forum
I already brought up the burying of FFF. Hopefully it'll get moved back up top where noobs and everyone else can find it.

Re: Proposed forum changes: Autumn 2007
The problem with the RR being gone is that now when you read a thread in Unplugged, you have to try and decide if they are asking for help, if they want advice, or if they are simply trying to vent and blow off some steam. Sometimes when people rant, they really don't want people posting with offerings of advice.

Be sure to move those topics where appropriate as well! Don't leave topics where they now should not be!

Can we have a "Geezers with Macs" forum? You know, just so we're not discriminating...

Re: Proposed forum changes: Autumn 2007
FFF is just down here while we sort out what to be do with it. Currently it seems the most popular option is just to rename it "Forum Feedback", update the description, and return it to it's previous location. However, that plan may or may not change.

I really don't see the problem with the merging of TRR and Unplugged. The line between the 2 was becoming increasingly blurry. While rants weren't being posted in Unplugged, almost all rants in TRR were turning into general discussions, and quite frankly, there just haven't been many really good rants lately.

So Desktops is under Everyday Tech? How's that logical and how do you expect newcomers and oldtimers for that matter to find it?
If you still want to use Everyday Tech a s a headline then it should be a headline the subgroups "Desktops-Stationary is more than paper and pencils" and "On-The-Go-Running with..."
Also I wonder how this new order can be any better administrationwise than the earlier version. More subjects in one group can't hardly be better than divide and conquer...

Simple deduction. There are two significantly large support and discussion topics below the news topic. One is for portable devices. The other must therefor be nonportable devices which includes desktops.
