A new new sticky (9/10/07)

With the new forum arrangement and a new moderator (who's looking for a reason to push some buttons) comes a new sticky.

This is the Pro Shop. Our little corner for discussing publishing, multimedia, audio, graphic and web design and the techniques, software, and hardware we use in our creative endeavors. "Creativity at work", as they say.

The rules are still the same as when Thrica wrote a "new" sticky a couple years ago. Here's the juicy bits:

Thrica wrote:

Don't Be a Jerk, commonly abbreviated DBaJ. This means don't be caustic, rude, or insulting. If someone else is being a jerk, don't be a jerk back; use the 'report' button instead and a mod will take care of it.

As a subset to the DBaJ rule, Keep inline images small; link to anything wider than 500 pixels or bigger than 200k. Those of us on dial up or 800x600 screens will thank you.

No Spamming. Basically, don't post links that will lead to your personal gain, like freeipods, eBay auctions where you or someone you know will benefit from the sale, or software or services that you offer (exception: reviews for freeware). [Mac|Life]'s advertisers have to pay to advertise, so why should you be exempt? Plus, it's irritating to everyone.

No porn or anything inappropriate. Remember, 12 year olds come here too. Don't post inappropriate images or grotesquely inappropriate text, links to such, or anything that would reasonably lead to such. This includes no filter dodging: There are filters in place to catch most cursing, but don't try to circumvent them in any way.

Don't break laws of the US or the country in which you abide. This means no personal threats anywhere, no posting or linking to copyrighted material, and please cite the source if you quote from somewhere. Other laws may apply if you don't live in the US.

Stay on topic. Topics should fall in the category of pro software, otherwise, it will be moved to the appropriate place. Don't derail good topics either.

Go ahead and e- or PM me if you've got any questions/problems!
