Apple Website Global Navigation Bar
So this morning for smurfs and giggles I cruise over to Apple's site and study the source code to see how they were handling the mouse effects with their un-ordered list navigation. I was surprised to see a technique I've never seen before. It appears that they have a background image consisting of all the different mouse states attached to the anchor tags, then for each pseudo class change the position of the background image!
Anybody seen this or used this method before?

I've seen it done before and used it myself (only with a normal and over state). I've never seen it done with an image with so many different states.

I think what they use is a CSS trick called sprites, but I didn't get your explanation. I don't know how old the method is, but I learned of it about a year ago, and implemented it nicely. It can take a while, especially if they have the hover and active states, and that 1 image must be big, but is definitely smaller and faster than 25 separate ones.
Here's a good article on it.

Look at it this way: you've sold as many paintings as Van Gogh—and you have both your ears.
Thanks, Dad.

Just started a new job last week FINALLY! I'm putting together a new website, among a bunch of other duties and it occured to me that I haven't put together a site from scratch in years!

Welcome back to the world!
Jobs can do that where they make you wear rose colored glasses where the rose color is actually solid black on the inside and happy eyes painted on the outside.
