Explorer won't display Flash

I'm designer/Web developer and I need to be able to test pages, Flash, etc. in all types of browsers. I recently downloaded the lastest Flash player from Adobe and after it installed I could suddenly no longer view Flash content in Internet Explorer 5.2.2 under Mac OS 10.4.10 (not running under Classic).

I clicked the View Plug-Ins Page warning that pops up when I try to view Flash files and it directs me to a download page on Adobe's site. There it instructs me to download Flash Player 7r70 since IE for the Mac isn't supported any more. What I end up with is a Plug-in (PowerPC) named Shockwave Flash NP-PPC but I have no idea where to put it.

I tried putting it in user/library/internet plug-ins with no luck.
Tried library/internet plug-ins, also didn't work.

Does anybody know where this file should go or what I should do to get Flash working in IE again?

Re: Explorer won't display Flash

IE for the Mac is wayyyyyy dead and gone.  Development stopped on it about 5 years ago.

Direct your IE/Mac users to :

Too many upgrades to the system and hardware have happened since IE was killed.  It is not unexpected that plugins and the like won't work.  The system has changed quite a bit since those days, it is possible that you may not be able to get it to work at all, at least on the current OS.   If you really want to test it, you need to find yourself a cheap old iMac with an earlier version of OSX.

The sad truth is that one time IE-Mac was the best damn browser on the planet.  It even surpassed its Win counterpart.  It was Mac-like and faster and more feature rich than any other.   Now it is a historical footnote.

QFT.

I'm surprised you can even get the web page to display at all in Exploder 5. The last time I tried to view one I was working on in 10.4.x all I got was... a big nothing!

Can you use a partition, or install another HD, and put an older version of OS X (10.2?) on that and use that to check your work? It'll mean rebooting, which is a pain, but if you need to view them you need to view them.

Re: Explorer won't display Flash

Oh, I know all about IE for Mac getting killed off years ago but I know there are still people who use it (like me for quite awhile after its demise actually). I don't test on it extensively but I do take a glance at pages I develop in IE to see what happens. I was just hoping there might be a way to get the old Flash Player 7 plug-in to work for it.

It was an amazing browser and there are still a lot of features from it that I miss that I wish Safari of Firefox would implement. But anyway, I guess it's time to wave farewell to that old friend. If I really need to test it I can try resurrecting it on a second hard drive I have installed with an older version of OS 10 on it already which should still work. Thanks.
