Re: How old is your current main system and how long have you had it?
Main machine: Yikes! G4 350mhz. Released October of 1999, I think I purchased mine November of that year. Stock 64mb ram, 16meg Rage 128, 10 gig hard drive.
Current specs: 500 MHz g4 upgrade from Newertech, OCed to 550mhz, 640 mb ram, a 160 gig hard drive (only 128 gigs usable on this machine), a 30 gig hard drive, and a 15 gig hard drive. Added a Radeon Mac Edition (before they put the 7xxx numbers on them, with slightly better performance than the first of the numbered models) and a dvd player.
Still my main machine, despite having a nice P4 based gaming pc and a TiBook.
Thanks to the overclock (or bad ram, or bad firewire controller or xyz - not sure) it has a tendency to crash - HARD. I'll run fine with an uptime of a week, and then not be able to get the thing to stay booted for longer than 15 minutes the next day, then back to week long uptimes.
If I had the cash - I'd SOO replace this with a Quad G5 tower. Screw intel.
There is some solace in knowing that some things just can't be attained by throwing piles of money at them in the name of corporate greed. --CaptKevMan

Re: How old is your current main system and how long have you had it?
My main system which is my first Mac is a first gen 1.8 PowerMac G5 with one gig and an the oem nVidia 64 Ultra. I bought it brand new in 2003 when it first came out and was pissed that 3 months later they replaced the single 1.8 with a Dual 1.8. Im pissed with myself that in the 4 years that ive had it i have not added anything new. But I wont deny that my first Mac has been my best Mac. My G5 in the 4 years Ive had it, has not given me a single issue (knock on wood) I love it. I think for a machine that sees a good amount of gaming(Halo, Unreal, Wolf) it has been amazing. I love my G5, till today I do not regret spending the amount of money I spent. I could have bought an awesome gaming PC for the money but I dont think it would have lasted this long. Now, I have another addition to the Mac family at home. It is a first gen 1.83 Macbook, it is all oem with unfortunately 512 of ram. It runs pretty good but still slow. Plans are to upgrade to 2 gigs of memory, a bigger hard drive would be good but thats going to have to wait. Love it but the charger brick buzzes like hell. Other than that i cant live without my Macbook.

I've got a 15" iMac G4, 800 MHz, 256MB RAM running 10.3.9. I've had it since April 2002. Hasn't given me one ounce of trouble.

A five year old PowerMac G4 MDD Dual 867. Recently bumped the RAM to 2GB and slamed in a Radeon 9800 (128MB). Upgraded the hard drives so have half a terabyte of internal storage. I'm as ready for Leopard as I can be.

Maybe I've already answered this, but I have a 12" 1Ghz PowerBook G4 which I believe is about 4 years old. Had a new hard drive (fitted myself) and a Pioneer K05 Superdrive (fitted myself), together with a replacement battery but apart from that it's still the same machine in great condition. Perfect bodywork, perfect screen. Only crashed 3 times since I've had it, and I always had it running within a few minutes.
Great machine. I'll replace it when it explodes in a ball of fire.

MacBook Pro 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo/2GB/120GB HD/17" lcd
I got it in February 2007, as a business supplement to my former G5 tower, and decided that I liked it better than I liked the tower.

My main mac is my 1GHz Titanium POwerbook G4. Has 768MB of RAM and a 100GB HD. The superdrive still works great. Still surfing the 'net on the built in Airport. This machine is great. It will be replaced with a MBP in the next year or so though. I have some Windows Apps (ok games) that I want to continue playing.

Re: How old is your current main system and how long have you had it?
It's a 20" iMac, 2.0GHz Core Duo. I bought it in the spring of last year. Since then i've added 1024mb of RAM.
Previously, I used a 1.25GHz G4 eMac with the memory maxed out. It was surprisingly quick, even with a lot of apps running. I gave it to my little brother.

It's amazing what adding RAM will do. It is THE most cost effective upgrade. My dual processor 500mhz G4 tower responded amazingly to 1.25gb as compared to the miniscule 256mb that was in it.

My main system is my gen 1 MacBook I bought last spring when they came out. 2GHz, 2GB RAM upgraded to 120GB HDD. I also have a MacPro but I almost never use it unless I'm doing homework using Office 2007 or playing games on Windows...
