Is that quack-ese for 'head rush'?

Just joking about the quack crack, but I remember having dizzy spells from standing too fast when I was young - and skinny (5'8", size 2-4). A few seconds of darkness, dizziness, and even wobbly legs sometimes.

I'd love to be a size 4 again, but 8 isn't so bad, and I can't remember the last time I had a dizzy spell from standing up too fast.

Re: Weight Loss Problems

5'8" and a size 4 just sounds scary to me, though I suppose it depends on your overall build.  I'm your same height, and a size 6 was the smallest I ever was.  When I was that skinny, spandex hung loose on me and you could see my ribs through my t-shirts.  Uff-da!

Re: Weight Loss Problems

Spinach and beets are high in iron, to name 2 veggies.  http://www.vegsoc.org/info/iron.html

Iron deficiency is the most prevalent nutritional problem both in Britain and worldwide. ...

The absorption of iron is influenced by other constituents of a meal. Phytates, oxalates and phosphates present in plant foods can inhibit absorption, as can tannin in tea. Fibre may also inhibit absorption. Vitamin C greatly increases the absorption of non-haem iron. Foods rich in vitamin C include citrus fruits, green peppers, and fresh leafy green vegetables. Citric acid, sugars, amino acids and alcohol can also promote iron absorption. Iron absorption can also be influenced by the amount of iron in the diet. Lowered levels of iron in the diet result in improved absorption.

Good sources of iron for vegetarians include wholegrain cereals and flours, leafy green vegetables, blackstrap molasses, pulses such as lentils and kidney beans, and some dried fruits.

Yep, that's orthostasis. Basically you don't have enough blood pressure in your brain and you can't stay conscious. That's the end result anyway if it's bad enough that your body can't get the pressure up quick enough to compensate for the change from laying or sitting to standing. In your case it was because your blood pressure was low to start with and is common in young, thin women. It doesn't really hurt anything, unless you actually pass out and hit your head when you fall down.

I was excercising horses for a living so I was just fit, I weighed about 115-120 lbs, and ate like - well a horse. Then my metabolism hit a wall at 30, I wasn't riding so much and I gained 10 lbs in what seemed like overnight. Then another 10 in 10 years. I've had office jobs for the last 5 years and it sucks.

Well, I'm no vegetarian. If anything, I'm ovo-lacto-pescatarian, but I ate chicken last week, so no dice.

Lots of people gain weight after becoming vegetarians. They replace the meat with cereal grains and bread products, which are calorie-dense and not particularly good for you in excess. Then there's also the line of thinking, "I don't eat meat so I can have more pie," which doesn't work out so well in reality.

I work in a fast-food joint, and I've watched people become obese, and I see what obese people are eating. Meat isn't what's making this country so damn fat, it's sugar.
