Possible CPU Upgrades for iMac Intel (Early 2006)

Ok, so I know I can drop my Core Duo and put a new Core 2 Duo in my iMac. The procedure isn't even that difficult since I'm familiar with the model and the take apart and I have all the necessary tools.

But, I'm really interested to know if I can take it a step further and go for a Xeon. I've tried searching and can't find any info, if anyone knows themselves or a place I can check, I'd really appreciate it.

Also, what would you guys recommend, bang-for-the-buck wise, for a CPU replacement?

Thanks.

I think the Xeon uses a different socket, so it's kind of a moot point.

As for which CPU to buy?

I'll let them say it for me. :-)

Well the weird thing is when I searched Newegg for Core 2 Duo's the Xeon's showed up as well. Maybe it's just wishful thinking... Is there a quad core Core 2 Duo? Methinks not, but not entirely sure.

There's no quad core Core 2 Duo, because the "Duo" indicates a dual core CPU. There is a quad core Core 2, though; it's called the Core 2 Quad.

I have a 2.4ghz iMac.  I would be interested to know if I can upgrade the processor to the 3.06 that is offered now.  Is this a possibility?
