Re: *BREAKING* Sen. Craig arrested in airport men's room
On Thursday, a Minnesota judge turned down Craig's effort to withdraw his Aug. 1 guilty plea, saying that Craig's claim that he didn't know what he was doing when he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct was "illogical."
And he's staying on until the end of his term.

And do you believe this person?
I was so depressed last night thinking about the economy, wars, jobs, my savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc., I called the Suicide Lifeline. I got a call center in Pakistan, and when I told them I was suicidal, they got all excited, and asked if I could drive a truck.

Well, I can't say I know him intimately like a bestest-in-the-world friend, but I've never gotten the feeling that he's a pathological liar either -- far from it. He's actually a very nice man. So yes, I believe him.

I figured there would be several others come forward but bathroom sex probably doesn't identify a person very well and the others didn't even know it was him.
I have no doubt there are others.

I'd also assume that with this story I just linked to that he could have gone somewhere with it and made some money with the revelation, so that's another brownie point for him. From what I know he's not the media whore type either.

Why? What is so wrong with The Honourable Larry Craig that would make his republican appointed replacement so much more acceptable?

The point is: how often does anyone get a 'do-over' for a resignation?
Nixon didn't, for instance.

Re: *BREAKING* Sen. Craig arrested in airport men's room
I think that everyone recognizes that Craig is doing a disservice to the Republican Party by remaining in office, so I, for one, appreciate his reluctance to leave.
Ennumerating his problems:
1) by not leaving now and presumably not running for re-election in 2008, Craig prevents Idaho's Republican governor from appointing a successor to his seat in the Senate. Even though this is likely a safe Republican seat, even an appointed incumbent has advantages not found in a fight over an open seat.
2) every time Craig votes on anything that is related to gay politics his arrest will be dragged up again, further embarrassing the party.
3) this is more a local point, but Craig has been stripped of his various leadership positions in the Senate by the Republican Party, which means that he is less able to direct spending to Idaho.
