12 inch ibook G3 LCD screen as a TV?
a 12 inch screen on an i book G3 has the same resolution as a regular TV so is it possible to convert a monitor into a screen that will accept input from devices using composite, coax, or S-video cables? Also what kind of power would the monitor need for the back light?
The reason I ask is because I want to embed a 12 inch screen into my car.

Hmmm, ya know i've actually seen someone do this before. Maybe a year or 2 ago there was a guy who used an old iBook like this in his car. Can't remember where I saw it tho. Anyone else maybe still have a link?

That would be great if there was a link. But I dont want to use a whole computer (mainly becasue the graphics card broke) just the display part.

I found out that the connector type for the data cable is known as LVDS. So If I can find a converter of some kind to some type of standard video like Composite or S that should make half the job easier.
Still am trying to figure out what I need to do for power.

The LCD power is carried through the LVDS controller. You'll also need an inverter board to power the backlight. This might work (can't be 100% sure, since sometimes LVDS cables differ).
Oops, nevermind, that only has VGA input. They make controllers with S-video, RCA, etc, but it'll cost more.

from what i have read and seen. Most of the using of lcd screens gets really expensive quickly..

basicly the laptop lcd screen has no converting circutry. You would have to purchase or make seperatly an that involvs $ or lots of harware programming.
When i was looking in to it the controllers i could find were in the neighbor hood of 3-4 hundred $... for that you can buy a new lcd tv af about the same size...
it can be done i'm sure but not for the cheap that you would think
