Re: Gore wins Nobel Peace Prize in Science

Well, that's a completely different point than the one I was making. My point was that the prize was awarded to three people, but to hear the wingnut chorus, it was solely given to Arafat. And given the groundbreaking nature of the Oslo Accords, it was probably deserved, although things haven't worked out the way everyone hoped.

I'm also no fan of Arafat, but calling him a "terrorist" has nothing to do with the merit of Gore's award.

I don't know how you could have read my posts and possibly thought that.
The context of my posts clearly point to Arafat.

Re: Gore wins Nobel Peace Prize in Science

btw - that awarding of the peace prize IMHO was a weak attempt to try and use the peace prize itself to make a gesture of peace, rather than awarding it to someone who really dedicated their lifes work to peace.

A dumb thing to try to do - it really weakened the value of the prize.

You're clueless as to what causes unrest then.

Clue me then.
How did Habitat for Humanity contribute to world peace?

My understanding the primary factor in his 2002 peace prize was his 1994 meeting with Kim II Sung, brokering an agreement in which North Korea would stop their nuclear fuel production. Of course there were other factors, but I believe that was the main one.

Unfortunately (and after the prize was awarded) in 2005 North Korea announced they had arms and did an underground detonation to prove it - so the agreement wasn't worth much apparently, but that's what it was for.

Well, for the six years that the Carter-brokered agreement was in force, NK didn't make any nukes.  It was only after President Bush ditched the agreement that NK detonated a nuke.

Seriously, if someone could make an agreement or framework that could withstand President Bush and American NeoCons, they should get the Nobel Peace Prize in perpetuity.

Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.  Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."  They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.

I bet the British thought Samuel Adams was a terrorist too.

I do not have a problem with Carter getting the prize.
Certainly from a Christian perspective - he is the most "christian" president in my lifetime. I don't think his politics were good, but he is a good man.

I don't however buy that N Korea suddenly started up when Bush became President. That's the claim of the left, I don't buy it.

That's actually something I thought would be fun to do - go to Boston and apply for a demonstration permit that mimics the tea party.

Re: Gore wins Nobel Peace Prize in Science

and we can also presume those declaring hypocrisy regularly listen closely to the message of those shouting on the street corner that the end is nigh?

those street corner folks don't waste gas traveling here and there -- they use mass transit, they don't spend resources heating the sections of their refrigerator box that the protection services folk hang out in, nor do they entertain foreign dignitaries in their refrigerator boxes.

they would seem to be the pinnacle of environmental information resources, yet no one listens to them.

Yeah, I remember when the righties at least acted a bit dignified and..well..manly. Now it's like a pack of shrieking, crying little 13 year old girls every time they get pissed off or something doesn't go their way.

Ok, maybe "thatch hut" was a bit of hyperbole...how about just an environmentally responsible house like Bush has in Crawford instead of a sprawling, energy sucking mansion? How about webcasting his speeches from home instead of using more jet  fuel per year than most citizens use in a lifetime? Do as I say, not as I do. If that's not the definition of hypocrisy, what is?

Not poverty, responsibility. Gore is directly and massively contributing to the very problem he preaches against! He should live like he wants us to live. He doesn't have a right to pollute, just because he "raises awareness" of pollution.

He could definitely be better with his image, but realistically, no matter what he did, people with your view would still find something to criticize him about. Probably if he had a complete eco house, you'd complain that it's not realistic for the average person to spend to money to build that kind of house, or something else like that.

I would bet that Gore probably goes more out of his way to conserve what he can, more than the typical person though.
