Demo Performance

K, guys let's whip out those e-peenors and see what ya got. wink big_smile tongue No, really I'd like to make sure I'm on par with what others are getting.

The first place I DL the demo was on my XPS laptop.
Dell XPS M170, 2.6 Centrino, 2Gb Ram, 256 7800GTX ToGo @ 1280X768 high settings get 20-30 FPS. (on old drivers)

Home Rig: Athy 64 X2 4800+, 2Gb ram, Dual 256mb 7800GTX in SLI @ 1024X768 is getting 40-50 with high settings. (on latest drivers) Which seems low to me. Dunno what else to do but hope the game/drivers get better optimized.

Re: Demo Performance

Sounds like SLI isn't scaling well here. The laptop was plugged into AC this time? smile

With 0 available worktime, my e-peenor is still thisclose to being finished, but not quite. I'll run the demo as soon as it is. Meanwhile...

Re: Demo Performance

My Macbook Pro 2.2 Ghz w/ Geforce 8600 GT 128 MB and 2 GB of ram gets 30-40 FPS on all three maps @ 1440x900 in my very unscientific tests.

Going down to 1280x800 makes a more consistent framerate but not much of a difference it seems.

I have all the settings maxed, although the texture thing doesn't really matter because the demo doesn't include the full-resolution textures. I'm sure that'll make a difference with video cards and their RAM amounts.

Update:
After reading tons of threads on the Epic forums I found that SLI is not working in the demo. I did find two ways to get it to work. One was to create a custom profile for the game or rename the UT3BetaDemo.exe to Bioshock.exe. I tried the rename first and it did work but not as well I as I'd thought it would. I guess the rename picks up on the Bioshock SLI profile already in the drivers.

Not being 100% happy with what I got I started doing more ini tweaks and broke the demo. Current status is I can play for anywhere from 30 sec up to a min then my machine litteraly shuts off. POOF!. Done. After about 4 hours of troubleshooting I wiped the demo off and installed fresh and haven't come back to it yet. Good news is I'm not alone with sudden machine shutdowns. A number of nvidia owners have the same problem.

::EDIT:: After reading Bat's link.
Wow, amazing how this game prefers Intel over AMD.

Re: Demo Performance

Update #2
K, it's working again @ 1600x1200 max setting with 30 fps. Much better.

The fix I think was using the new nvidia 163.76 beta drivers that just came out. I'm sure the fresh install didn't hurt and I renamed the .exe to Bioshock to get SLI to work.

A neat feature I found while doing this is the gamespy profile that it wants you to use. At first I was like what the hell! I gotta login to play!?! WTF!?! But now I see that profile follows you around. Like after the new install I didn't have to redo my keyboard settings they were saved. Also if I login at work the same key settings show up which is cool. Doesn't save preferred weapon order tho, bummer.
