SETI & 10.5

I will be moving to 10.5 on some of my machines tomorrow. How does one not lose the WU's being worked on, as well as the pair that are cached and read to go?

Any help would me nice.

Happy Crunching…

Re: SETI & 10.5

If you do a standard install, you should not lose anything at all.

If you plan on doing a clean install you will need to back up the "Hard Drive/Library/Application Support/BOINC Data" folder and after installing put it back in the new Application Support folder.

You might also have to reinstall the BOINC manager but that will only take a minute.

Re: SETI & 10.5

Thank you, I am a clean installer and will be this soon I hope. Perhaps ZFS will show up in the new OS after all…

As an aside, it looks to me that my macbook 2.0 c2 is as fast or faster at crunching SETI WU's than my G5 2.7. Or have I not enough units under my belt in this new way of doing it, to make that judgment? Regardless, I look forward to a new 4 or more core mac in the next few weeks to months.

Re: SETI & 10.5

I'd set BOINC to "No New Work" and then just wait for the WUs to run out. Then again, I'm sure your unopened 10.5 box won't remain that way for too long. If it comes down to it, S@H will redistribute the work you trashed if your backup scheme doesn't go as it should. So I guess my new advice is don't worry and just go for it!

Re: SETI & 10.5

Well, I lost a couple of hours per core, but worse things have happened. The X.5 install went good on the black macbook, no problems or such. It looks as if the SETI program will still run ok. I will have to wait to see if the WU's upload correctly and the data is sound.

However I hope for the best and will deal with the rest. Thanks guys for the input and happy crunching to all…
