Netinfo Manager
Where is it?
Is it only installed as a custom option, kind of makes it hard to have a users partition without it....

Re: Netinfo Manager
I can't answer your question, but Apple is moving away from Netinfo Manager. There's probably some other new way to do what you want to do .

Some of the functionality that was in Netinfo might now be found in Accounts preference pane by right clicking/control clicking on the account you want to manage.

Works for me: brings up 'Advanced Settingsā¦' item that pops up a window with some, not all, of the items that were available in NetInfo Manager.
Only allows you to deal with GUI accounts though.
Did you notice you can finally create groups in the Accounts Pane and add users to them? Quite nice, though again only GUI accounts.

Hmmm, I'll give that a whirl, but I have since just decided to set myself up a bit different, so all will be good.

Re: Netinfo Manager
You enable root using the Directory Utility.

You have to be authenticated to get that option.

To create a login only user go to the Sharing Pane, select something that has user logins, Click the + under the users and then select any person in your contacts list or click "New Person" - you can then add a login only user

Thanks. Not at home right now. I've only played with Leopard for less than 3 hours so far since Friday night. I'll investigate tomorrow evening when I get back.

Re: Netinfo Manager
But, in all reality, do you really need to enable the root user when your admin account has sudo rights?
I can't think of a reason, beyond super power user linux stuff, that you'd need to enable root.

You can enable root from the command line, but if you don't know how to do so, are you sure you should be enabling root?

Ah nice. This seems a little buggy though. I had problems with adding the same user to multiple services and with deleting, then re-adding them.
If you click new user in the Accounts pane and select "Sharing Only", this appears to do the same thing without going through the sharing pane. The Accounts pane allows you to modify the same settings as for a GUI user, save for GUI ones of course.
Root is nice to have when doing a lot of admin only stuff. I've also had a few things not work with sudo in the past that worked in su, though I don't remember what they were. I almost always use sudo.

I hope it won't be a problem to set a new home path now, as I have my home on a separate partition.

Re: Netinfo Manager
The right clicking on the new user and going into the advanced settings does bring up the options, but it goes a long way into how terrible the help system is; not even a single hit when searching. Oh well.
I've decided to stick with my current plan, which will have my projects on a separate partition, which is where the bulk of my data is stored.

Yeah, that's in the "Advanced Settings" window mentioned earlier.

The only reason I can think of is to say I can.
But yeah, I probably won't do it. Haven't since 10.2, and even then, I didn't necessarilly need to.
