Possibly slowing down ...

eek I blew a fan in my MacBook Pro last night. Some others tell me that F@H is just too much for a little old notebook. The fan or Fans were making more than usual noise last few weeks. Finally yesterday evening, one of them made a grinding noise along with a squeal.

As soon as I quit F@H via InCrease, the remaining fan slowed down and got quiet. I checked the temperature with iStat and found the CPU @ 207 Deg. F. I shut the MBP down for a while and let it cool. Then I ran Hardware check which returned an error (which basically confirmed that the left fan was gone).

I took it into my local Apple Authorized Repair dealer at 11:00AM. They called me at 2:00PM to let me know my MBP was repaired and ready for pick up! Wow. Great service. This was the very first time I have taken an Apple product in for service. I've owned several Apple computers plus many other peripherals since I bought the first one in 1992. I'm quite pleased.

Also, the service tech told me when I picked it up that the fan was defective and the burn out was not due to running F@H.

So, I'll be watching it close and if I have further trouble with overheating or excessive fan noise, I'll have to quit running F@H on it. Of course I'll still be running on my Intel iMac 2.8. smile

Re: Possibly slowing down ...

Bummer on the laptop.    I'm not one to endorse Folding on laptops -- I just don't have the experience or enough reviews in the forum to say that it would be good.

and hooray for the 2.8.
