You're suppose to use boric acid with sugar and water. A little risky to put in a Mac, dontcha think?

Re: Ants live in my apple
I don't think it should be put on the mac - but neither should ammonia.
I mean around the mac.
I believe you only need to mix it with sugar and water if you want to poison the nest. If I remember, boric acid in the powder form (ie borax) - the ants will walk through it and it will stick to their feet, as they clean it off themselves, they poison themselves - but it doesn't necessarily get the nest as they don't bring it back to the nest as a food source.

Build a clear case for the mini so you can have an ant farm while you compute.

Re: Ants live in my apple
Ahhrg! These ants are relentless. I took apart the mini, found some and vacumed them out.I also washed my desk down. The next day I found them again all over my desk and monitor and mini. I think they live in my monitor too but I cant open it or I will void the warrANTY.
They are using my spaghetti mess of cables to get around as well. I think Ill try and smoke em out. Ill burn leaves or something and place the monitor over it. A lack of oxygen might do the trick. These little bastards just keep coming.

You'll get soot inside it. Pariah's idea of freezing them out sounds like a good one.

Smoking them out is a great plan, but you're not thinking big enough. Light the desk on fire and I can promise you that after 20 minutes they'll all be gone.

This is so strange...
So strange that I even thought about a fruit-apple, not a computer-apple, when saw the name of the thread

Alright these bastards are back living in my mini. I think lack of oxygen is the way to go. Can anyone give me advice on what gas to use that is heavier than air so I can place it in a container and deprive them of oxygen?

couldn't you just prop it up, put a big bowl over it, and fill it with helium?
Thanks for clicking.

Won't be for long; no lungs and no oxygen.

I think Ill mix baking soda and vinegar together in an open bottle and pour the co2 air into a container holding my mac.

Yeah, but you can't freeze a monitor. My dad tried that once. Completely killed the LCD.

LCD monitors freeze at low temperatures: Well, at some point, everything will freeze! But the liquid-crystal paste used in LCD displays has a different specific gravity than water, and its freezing point is much lower as a result. I have left consumer and professional LCD monitors out in cars overnight when temperatures dropped into the low ‘teens with no adverse effects the next day. (Be nice to the monitor and let it warm up to room temperature before use.)
Keep in mind that many of the displays in today’s cars use LCD technology, in particular car radios and CD players. When was the last time you saw one of those crack when left out in cold weather?
Condensation would be a concern though, depending on where you live.

I've left sodas in the car overnight in temps down into the teens and they didn't freeze, but water outside did. It's warmer in the car.

Re: Ants live in my apple
Im not going to attempt freeze anything. Besides when my mate had the same problem with his stereo, he tried that and the ants never died. We tried it 3 times, perhaps ants are stronger than we'd like to think.

Re: Ants live in my apple
Maybe you should open up the case, take it outside with a can of compressed air and blow the suckers out.
Alright, now, who wants to be transistorized?
