The Computer Chonicles - The Mac in 1985 (tv show from 1985)

The Internet Archive project also has videos available of old tv shows, etc. I thought some of you might find this interesting. It is from a show called The Computer Chronicles and it talks about the Mac in 1985. I've been a Mac user since 1988 but I saw some interesting things in this episode. I did not know that Apple had a piece of software call MacProject, similar to MS Project. Very interesting that they had this critical piece of software in the beginning and then went many years without anything to compete in this category with MS. In the past year we've seen several major releases of Project Management software for the Mac from third party developers.

It also brings back memories when the guy from Telos software gets ready to demo his software and has to put in a floppy disc in order to load it smile

I loved watching them demo software that does things that we completely take for granted now but that were absolutely amazing for a personal computer back then.

At the end the guy is providing some news in the computer industry about the latest models from different manufacturers and Atari is releasing a new computer with an optional 10MB hard drive for only $600. I love it! smile

CC introduced me to the Amiga and NewTek's video toaster, so I got me one and that set me onto a career in the media biz.  That lead me into the Mac world when FCP rolled around.

And...this is the episode.  Weird how I remember this show almost verbatim:

Nice quote:  "Sleek laptop just under 8 pounds"  "Retails for $6,000" "20MB hard drive"

Ha.  I really like the long pregnant pause when the CC host ask the Atari520ST designers "how many have you sold so far"

I almost feel sorry for the Atari guys as they react like they've been sucker punched in the gut.

That show used to come on late at night on PBS every week. I would set up my VCR to record it.

Once recently I was watching an old tape that I had recorded over and was surprised to find an episode still recorded on the end. It was about the Newton, among other things, being introduced at a computer show in Italy.

Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.

Unless you become as little children, there's no way you will believe this crap.
