Mail.app rule based on whether the message is read

Okay, I can't seem to find an answer to my particular question anywhere, so I'll ask here.

I've just started the move from Entourage to Mail, and am setting up new rules. There is one thing I would like to do, but can't quite figure it out.

I want to have a rule go into effect once a message is read. That is, something like

If

Message - is marked as read
and sender belongs to group - "friends"

then

Move message to - mailbox "friends box"

________

I don't really use smart mailboxes that much because I want my inbox itself to be empty as possible - I file my messages away.

So, any thoughts? I would appreciate any help at all. thanks!

Re: Mail.app rule based on whether the message is read

I don't think there's a way in Rules.

It appears that Automator can do some of the rules criteria in 10.4  (I don't have 10.5 installed.)

1. Find
Find all messages where message is read
and where  (sender is in group)   <----------   I don't see a way to do this
2. Get messages
3. Move  (I can't see this either in Automator)

---------

Smart mailboxes aren't so bad.   I have about 8 of them.

Re: Mail.app rule based on whether the message is read

Mail desperately needs better rules/smart mailbox functionality. That part is seriously subpar.

Anyone know of a plugin that'll alleviate this problem? Maybe I should find the time to dive into this and write one myself...

Yeah, they need an update.  I have a machine at home, and I wanted to create an account to have it forward all my emails to that I want ot get on my phone, but tehre is no rule to say "If mail isn't Junk"  it just dumbly forwards everything (and please if you know of a work around for that, let me know)...
