No, they were replaced by a whole host of army officers who fought in vietnam and now are determined to avoid/atone for vietnam, which smurfed us over.

I'd much rather have a President knowledgable about foreign policy, world affairs and domestic issues than a President knowledgable about science.
Yes, it does. At least a basic understanding of science. Shoulda taken some chemistry and biology just to get into college. The President shouldn't need a PhD in science, but should understand the basics, like the difference between an electron and a neutron.
Unfortunately the current President isn't knowledgeable about foreign policy, world affairs or domestic affairs and his advisers are ideologues who only present one side of an issue. I'd rather we didn't' make the same mistake twice. Someone who actually had a successful career, public or private sector, would be nice too - unlike the current President.

The current President had a fairly successful career in the public sector as Governor of Tejas.

No...it doesnt. It demonstrates the ability to memorize simple concepts (which is all well and good) but does not demonstrate intelligence. How many times have you met someone who you would not characterize as "intelligent" and yet gets ahead by sheer perseverance?
The electron/neutron was hyperbole, I would hope that the President have a basic understanding of science. I mean basic. However, I don't think its fair or realistic to expect him to be able to debate in depth on science.
I totally agree that Bush fulfills none of the desirable qualities of a President. He represents the moronic portion of the population who feels that the President should be just like him. Hes the godamn President, he should be smarter and more able than you in every way.

It's widely known that the Texas governor is largely a ceremonial position with little power.

Compared to other states it is weak, about like the Presidency.
The power of appointments and the veto though make it more than just ceremonial.

Please. If George W. Bush was competent and intelligent this country would be a smoking rubble today.
Bush's problem isn't a lack of expertise, it's the fact that he and his allies don't give a smurf about this country, or at least 99.9% of it.
Pretty much the only thing that has been able to stop him from embarking on another greed-driven, bad-for-the-vast-majority-of-Americans policy is the sheer incompetence of his administration. (Thanks Democrats!)

As a matter of fact, I believe that this country was founded by intellectuals.

As much as I dislike Bush, I do believe he has the best interests of the country at heart. Its just that he doesnt understand what those best interests are or how to best go about getting them...

Is there any evidence of that being the case?
I wish it were possible to assume that everyone who gets involved in politics is doing it for the good of the country. That clearly isn't the case though. Some politicians simply are handmaidens for special interests the oppose the interests of the majority.
