Fed Ex rant
I am so smurfing annoyed with them right now. I didn't choose to use them for shipping, it was the business i bought from. I always see attempted delivery notices laying on the ground outside our walkin gate. Like anyone that doesnt use that gate (almost everyone) is going to see a notice on the ground. Apparently Fed Ex drivers would rather do that than find out what the vender code for the gate is.
Anyway, i've been waiting for a package. I was home all day yesterday when delivery was expected. Nothing. I went shopping this morning and got home at 1230p. I getonline to track my package and see that delivery was attempted on Dec 14 at 4pm. WTF?

Re: Fed Ex rant
Yeah. FedEx does crap like that to me all the time. When I was expecting my Mini, they delivered a photo album from Apple that same day (Aaron had to chase the truck down the street, mind you) but when I looked online for the status of my Mini, it said that our address didn't exist and that delivery had failed.
I ended up calling and was transferred to the local warehouse. The guys there said I could come pick it up, and gave me the crappiest, most misleading directions ever. (I have to wonder if it was intentional.) I had to drive to freaking Wisconsin just to get what I paid for.

Re: Fed Ex rant
FedEx and UPS regularly make deliveries directly to our apartment office here, without even checking to see if anyone is home first. Most of the time, they don't even leave a notice that anything was delivered.

I talked to a live operator and he said they have the package and a delivery attempt has not been made, but that it also isn't scheduled for delivery until tomorrow. They've had the friggin package since yesterday! He also said the driver has it in his truck right now, but all "scheduled deliveries" come first and if he doesn't have time, he'll deliver it tomorrow. Even if he has to come to my complex, he won't attempt the delivery because it isn't scheduled until tomorrow. Now that's smurfed up.

I cant stand it when you cant have your package left at your door because they wont allow it if you arent home to sign for it. I hate Fed Ex, Fed Ex Ground is worse though. They used to be someone else that Fed Ex bought and slapped their name on. I've had them say on the little report that they made an attempt and no one was home several times, when I was home all day. One time I was waiting for some shoes, and I was watching its tracking all day. Its getting later and later, and finally like at 8:30pm, it says the dude attempted to deliver my package, at 8:29pm and I was not home. Flat out lied, because I talked to the driver when he finally did deliver it and he apologized for it. Fed Ex Ground around here seems like it must work on a sub-contractor basis or something, because the dude's truck at the time was this red and yellow moving truck and he told me he had just entered the info because he was at his house and stopping for the day. Later he got a real Fed Ex vehicle. I got to know him over the years delivering stuff and it was often a headache, but it was kinda cool because when I moved, the first week in my new place I made a very very expensive order and accidentally sent it to my old address. But the Fed Ex Ground dude knew I moved so he found my number and called me and asked what he should do, and that was very cool.

You just hit all the usual points - Express and Ground are different companies, all Ground drivers are independent contractors, and service varies greatly depending on who your driver is.

Re: Fed Ex rant
FedEx sucks period. Express has delivered my stuff to my neighbor's house. The address in the computer was right, I was home, and yet the guy wrote down in the computer "delivered to 57389" even though the address on his screen to deliver to was 57214 [numbers changed].
And it was just on their porch, because they weren't home!

My 15 year old brother signed for my MacBook Pro when it came. He kept on erasing his signature and re-doing it on the electronic pad and now the Fedex woman gives him dirty looks. Since then he has made me go and sign for all packages.

Indirect Signature Required. FedEx will obtain a signature in one of three ways:
From any person at the delivery address; or
From a neighbor, building manager or other person at a neighboring address; or
The recipient can sign a FedEx door tag authorizing release of the package without anyone present.
If no signature is required, they'll leave a package.
If the driver thinks your front porch represents more of a theft risk, they'll leave it with a neighbor.
Pretty much everything is at the driver's discretion - i think you're lucky they noted the address where they left it. Mine doesn't: I just have to guess; sometimes my neighbor leaves me a note or the apartment manager calls. Sometimes they don't.

I can't say I've had such bad experiences in Canada, but FedEx did leave a shipment on the doorstep when I had it shipped to my grandparents in Florida. Luckily, the neighbourhood is safe so nothing was stolen...

Re: Fed Ex rant
UPS boxes are taken directly to my door on the seventh floor of an apartment, and I sign for it.
Fedex boxes come to the apartment office and i have to go all the way down to the office to get the shipment, and i never receive notice of the shipment until the day after it arrives either. Terrible.

Re: Fed Ex rant
Hardly anyone ever posts in threads like this to say that they haven't had problems. So I will. I've gotten lots of deliveries from FedEx over the last year or two, and I haven't had a single issue. In fact, I ended up having to return a couple of defective products, and the company I bought from gave me a pre-paid FedEx return label both times, and I slapped it on the box, brought it to the local FedEx (it's close by, so I didn't bother with pick-up) and they handled the whole thing with no problems.
Now, UPS on the other hand, they suck. Really really suck.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I've had no troubles with FedEx as long as the packages stay within the Canadian border.

Re: Fed Ex rant
My favorite is a couple of weeks ago, we got a UPS package left on our porch for the people who lived in our house two years ago. It was sent from the grandparents to one of the grandchildren. But here's the kicker!
Grandpa put the correct "new" address on the box. It was labeled clearly and was easy to read. Someone at UPS apparently scribbled this out and put a sticker on it re-addressing it to our house. WTF?
I was going to complain to UPS, but what good would it do? I called the family and they came and picked it up.

I think they just thought it was weird and were happy we had contacted them. Hopefully it's a one-off thing.

A signature was required. They claimed there was a waiver on file, so it was left (untrue). They did not leave it with a neighbor, they left it on THEIR porch. I live in a suburb on a hill, there are lots of out-of-sight places on all the porches, there is no reasonable reason why the neighbor's porch is a better choice than mine.
I have no idea what that driver was thinking.
