Re: Stacks Haters Rejoice!
It's a simple test. If I'm trying to search a document or a filename and I only know parts of the name, it should return results.
The parser should know that if I've got .app in the search I'm looking for applications. Knowing that it should be looking for any application containing the text ari and saf. It just shows that the search still isn't finding everything.
(I realize this isn't the best use of grep, but it proves the point)
Code:
$ ls | grep ari | grep .app | grep Saf Safari.app

Re: Stacks Haters Rejoice!
I am all for options, so bring it on. Although they better have fixed the GPU drivers for my X800 or I am going to be very upset, and probably start causing a stink.
If they (or AMD/ATI) won't / can't fix the drivers for the X800 to work properly, then Apple or AMD owes its AGP 8x Pro owners a solution like a current GPU with proper interface. Even if I have to choke up $500 bucks, I'll do it for a better GPU if it works.
Personally I feel it lands on Apple's shoulders because A) I have their very expensive 30" monitor and B) Both worked in Tiger.
And anyone who brings up any non-sense about the OS using OpenGL more extensively can crawl back under their rock; Games use way more than the OS and they run fine in Leopard, so does Lightwave 3D.

I'm thinking of the voodoo chipsets from Os 9 to OS X...

Well, sort of. At maximum resolution on a 30" Cinema Display... not completely.
A) the menubar is not transparent....maybe that is a plus, but still
B) whenever anything from the 3D dock gets maximized, either the dock disappears and reappears or the entire display flashes a transparent pink, blue, yellow.
C) Full screen quicktime playback sucks. The left third plays fine, the right 2 thirds choke and lag. I've also had issues of playback from the desktop of fresh renders from lightwave that even a 400Mhz G4 could play back (320x240 Animation).

I've been ranting about this lack of functionality since Spotlight hit.
Yay for folder stacks!

Spotlight's better than what it was for actually finding results, but it still doesn't find them all.

Re: Stacks Haters Rejoice!
You would think that Apple would just use grep for the searching. Why re-invent the wheel.

Oh, ok. So it's a issue when combined with the 30" Cinema Display. I was starting to think I was going to have to notify my X800 that it shouldn't be working.

Apple screwed up something with the ATI drivers; at least for PowerPC machines + X800 + 30" Cinema. I suspect something is goofy with the dual link processing. Works fine when I lower the resolution. Games run fine also.

Re: Stacks Haters Rejoice!
Well Apple doesn't make ATI drivers, but they do bundle them with the OS and they are screwed up in Leo - not just the PPC ones either.
