Booting to Grey Screen...

So I left my macbook on this afternoon, and then went out to see a movie. I came home today, only to find the screen completely black, and the computer totally unresponsive. So I restarted it, heard the chime, and watched it hang at the grey screen. Nothing happened, so I decided to pop in my Leopard DVD, and run disk utility. Well, guess what, my hard drive doesn't even pop up on the list of selectable volumes. I'm gonna go on a limb and say that I have a smurfed hard drive (along with all my school work on it.... ohhh smurf.). Is there anything I can do before I go and call apple about this? cry

Re: Booting to Grey Screen...

You'll only have to resort to DataRescue if it turns out the drive is mostly hosed, but that seems unlikely. Try booting from the OS CD that came with the computer. If that works, run the DiskUtils.

Re: Booting to Grey Screen...

Allright, I got me a copy of Data Recover. So how would I recover it using it? Firewire target disk mode or what? I have another iMac that Im on right now (Core 2). So will I have to go and buy a a 6 pin to 6 pin cable? Could an Ethernet cable work?

Re: Booting to Grey Screen...

So I tried target disk mode... no dice... looks like my drive is hosed.
