Re: Egg Nog

ugh, eggnog. i know people love it with a passion (!), but i just have never been a fan.

that said, it IS part of the holidayzz, so i accept it as an traditional past time of sorts.

anyone here tried out an Eggnog Latte at Starbucks? not fishing for compliments (as i work there) or flames, just curious as to how many of you 'nog drinkers have braved the foul drink and either hated it or loved it.

edit: i forgot to point out that i hate the Eggnog Latte as well. logic should follow that i hate eggnog in any form, but i just wanted to clarify. eggnog also SCREAMS when it is steamed.

Would you like it  in a boat?

Would you like it with a goat?

I love egg nog, but this year it seems that the price went up anywhere from $1.00 - $2.00 a half gallon. I'm considering trying my hand at making my own, but i dunno if it'd be any cheaper.

Have any of you made your own egg nog and how does it compare to store/dairy bought?

My mother likes it to the point of buying it in cans off season.  (Borden)

Eeewww.

I got some last year. It WAS good. But then, I don't need dairy to enjoy it (in fact, that it's non-dairy makes it more enjoyable for me).

Re: Egg Nog

I picked up a quart from King Soopers this AM, Kroger brand I believe.  The commercially prepared egg nog is so much thicker than the kind made at home.

Yum, I think I'll go pour myself a glass of egg nog.

I'll just leave the goat out.

I tried it once and didn't like it. With the exception of ice cream, i'm not a fan of egg nog flavored things. Although, i'm pretty sure the ice cream isn't just flavored.

Re: Egg Nog

Ok, i made my first batch of egg nog. It was good, but it doesn't seem as flavorful as store bought, and it's not near as thick.

Re: Egg Nog

add any or all of these:  whipping cream, msg and tiny bits of corn starch, or very thoroughly grind up instant tapioca to minute size.

I am not a corn starch user, so my experience is out of date.

Which of these ingredients did you leave out:

milk, high fructose corn syrup, cream, corn syrup, whey, pasteurized egg yolks, non-fat milk, sugar, guar gum, carrageenan, natural and artificial flavors, nutmeg, mono and diglycerides, annatto or tumeric?

Hated it.
Nothing like a Latte or Egg Nog should taste like.
And I like both.

Re: Egg Nog

I used to just put eggs and milk and sugar in a blender, try some, and then add more of any ingredient that seemed underrepresented...
