Guitar Hero
Until the very end of last year, my opinion of this game was basically the same as Randy's on South Park. Why would you waste so much time playing this game when you could be doing something that's actually productive...like learning to play a real guitar? I will freely admit that I had formed that opinion before ever actually playing the game. My friends busted it out at the New Year party I went to and we ended up playing until 6 in the morning. By 9pm Tuesday night I'd been to a half dozen different stores trying to get one of my own with no luck. I thought maybe that would do it for me and I'd wake the next morning not wanting one. No dice. I finally scored last night.
Problem is, my PS2 is busted, they don't make it for the original XBox, and my Mac Mini mediacenter hooked up to my TV won't work because of the integrated graphics. So I had to buy an XBox 360. Oh no! The horror! Meh. I wanted one anyway. But, unless you want the Halo edition or the smurfy arcade one, those things are hard to come by! I finally found one at a Target about 45 minutes outside the city. So that problem was solved. But the game itself isn't easy to find either. About 10 minutes down the road from that Target I found a Guitar Hero II bundle so I grabbed it in case I didn't have better luck at my last stop. Another 45 minutes back towards the city, but south of my home I found a stack of about a dozen GH3 bundles with with the Les Paul guitar I was hoping for at Best Buy about 15 minutes before closing. Rock!
Anyhooz, it was definitely more fun when I was drunk and not exhausted from driving to hell and back, but still totally worth the effort, IMHO. And I've finally found a game that my wife will play with me. Rock! \m/
Anybody give a smurf? Or have you never played?

All of the versions of that game ROCK. I dabbled with a real guitar for years and came to the conclusion that I wasn't the next Eddie Van Halen. So i basically quit and focused on my art. This game gave me the feeling without all of the practice.
Have you tried it on hard yet?

I've never played, but am interested in having a go at it. I also think that Rock Band would be pretty cool if you had enough people for it.

It's a gateway game for sure.
I had several wasted people at my house over the New Year's holiday rocking out on it -- and sharing a single guitar because i was too cheap to pay $50 for a second one at Best Buy. (Lazyweb: Anyone seen a USB guitar for less than that online? I haven't had time to look yet.)
I would really love to see some kind of Guitar Hero Composer app that lets you load your own songs and program guitar parts for them. I keep riding around in my car, hearing a song, and thinking, "Man, this would be so fun in Guitar Hero!" Heh, what a nerd.

I've not yet tried it. I did play Wii Sports for the first time ever on New Year's. I felt a little retarded swinging the Wiimote around, but I admit it was fun. Unfortunately those are even more difficult to find...
It is an odd thing, but every one who disappears is said to be seen at San Francisco. It must be a delightful city, and possess all the attractions of the next world.

My sister got some GH3 bundle with 2 controllers for 85 bucks on black friday... she then got a used PS2 with 8 games and a controller for another 85 dollars.
I played the game, got pretty good at it, and decided I should go to my piano, and practice at least twice as long than what I played.
Just because something is legal, doesn't mean it's right. Just because something is illegal, doesn't mean it's wrong.

i really enjoyed gh2 and 3 for my 360. but rockband is just way more fun when people are around. and, it's like a whole new game, in drum hero.

This is pretty much how everyone I know felt about the game, before actually playing. It's really bizarre... they must put subliminal messages in it or something.
What is the difference between Vista and OSX?

Yeah, that actually goes away after you get use to playing it (it did for me anyway).

I never had that problem. I have noticed, though, that the more I play (and better I get), the slower the notes seem to scroll.
