Folding is bogging my computer down toooooo much
so here's my problem. i have recently installed the intel folding program that runs in the background. i have been using the one for PPC and am using a MBP. i find that this new one for intel seems to seriously drain all my resources so that my computer is very laggy when i'm using it for normal things like music and web browsing. is there any way i can tell the folding program to use something like 60% of the comps resources rather than all of it when possible?
just looking for ideas or possible solutions so i can use my comp here and fold at the same time without lots of lag.
thanks

odd. It's supposed to run at lowest priority.
Thanks for clicking.

Let's look at your Activity Monitor. Using up the CPU will be 4 "fah_core1.exe", varying between 30-70 % cpu usage.
What else is using CPU ?

right. sometimes i'll notice the comp to be considerably more laggy than others when it's really doing all the same things in the activity viewer .... *shrugs*
is there anyway to set a limit of cpu usage folding program can use?

Re: Folding is bogging my computer down toooooo much
thank you.
also now i've having more problems, these new problems being i have trouble shutting down the fah cores, aka the program ultimately. i'll go to system prefs and disable it however only a few minutes later i'll notice and see in activity viewer that the cores are running again
i may need to uninstall this and revert to the PPC version.

Re: Folding is bogging my computer down toooooo much
I just got my new iMac three days ago.
When I started running FaH on it, my computer got very laggy, too. I would have to pause FaH to run apps where I didn't want any drags.
Then I installed another gig of RAM (doubled from 1 to 2 gigs)
Problem completely solved!
It just turned out that FaH pushed my computer just over the 1 gig of RAM it came with.

I've noticed, however, that on my intel iMac, FaH shows up in the Activity Monitor as "User" CPU Usage (green), and not as "Nice" CPU usage (blue), like it did on my old PPC.
It seems to work the same way as it did before, giving up processor for other apps, but it displays differently in Activity Monitor for some reason.
