Uninstalling f@h on an intel mac.....

I just got an iMac 2ghz intel for Christmas, and I've been folding good ever since.
A couple of days ago it started crashing, and I deleted what I could and installed a new one.
Turns out I messed something up- now I just need to uninstall & wipe it completely so I can reinstall it fresh.
Can somebody guide me through this?
Thanks.

Re: Uninstalling f@h on an intel mac.....

Sure ---  this should work regardless of which install method you used.

1. open Terminal
2. type this  ---- this makes a backup of your crontab file and eliminates folding from startup
crontab -l  >~/backupcrontab.txt
crontab -r
3. quit Terminal
-----------
4. In the Finder, go to your Home / Library folder.   Delete the folder FAH or whatever it is called.  Possibly called INCREASE if you used that installer.
5.  Re-install Folding with  the Team installer  http://geek.thinkunique.org/wp-content/ … ld_SMP.dmg  from this thread  http://www.maclife.com/forums/topic/100596
6. You are now Folding with a new protein and a completely new install.

Thanks...
One thing I notice is that my units are crashing one after the other...started maybe a week ago.
They get to 10% or less and it downloads a new one due to some random reason.
Is it just cause this is a beta?
They really have to get their act together....this is the 7th one in a row now.

sounds like bad proteins

Post your FAHlog.txt file here (at least the relevant parts).   I will then re-post over at Folding Tech Support.

Re: Uninstalling f@h on an intel mac.....

I'll have to try the removal process myself, my speedy OS X machine (a home made Mac/Conroe based Pentium box) has been folding for weeks without reporting anything sad

Hopefully a reinstall fixes the issue.

Is there another way to completely and entirely wipe f@H and all of its parts completely off of my computer so I can reinstall it? I think thats the only way at this point...

The erasing method above is the COMPLETE way to my knowledge.  I will consult ArtemisG3 about this problem.

Re: Uninstalling f@h on an intel mac.....

Are there any possible network issues with this particular Mac, such as disconnecting the ethernet cable while folding, or turning the router on and off? This can disrupt folding.

To uninstall, copy and paste the following into the terminal:

Code:

crontab -l > ~/backupcrontab$(date "+%m-%d-%Y").txt; crontab -r; rm -rf ~/Library/FAH; rm -rf ~/Library/Folding@home

Re: Uninstalling f@h on an intel mac.....

okay, let's see what happens.

I'll keep thinking on this and checking official tech support.

This may take a couple days.

Re: Uninstalling f@h on an intel mac.....

Thanks guys I really appreciate this.
When I enter that into terminal I get a message saying "crontab: no crontab for.."
Is that a problem?
And no...my ethernet cable is in 100% of the time unless I need to print something which is once a day for maybe 3 minutes, but I was doing this before too so that cant be the problem.
Is there something maybe with the client core communications error? I think I saw that a couple of times when I read the log

Re: Uninstalling f@h on an intel mac.....

And one more thing...even after putting this into terminal the f@h preference box is still up in system preferences...
I installed this straight from Stanford's website I didn't use quickfold if that helps any...

Re: Uninstalling f@h on an intel mac.....

Okay the message is because your crontab is already removed.
I didn't realize you used the Stanford installer. I will have to check where it installs everything.
