EVE Online?
Has anyone here downloaded the EVE Online trial for Mac yet?
[NOTE: It's Intel-only, I'm not sure if Intel graphics chipsets are supported.]
I've been playing with it the last couple of days, and I'm fairly impressed. For those who don't know what it is, let me set the scene for you....
...remember way back when Escape Velocity, EV Override and EV Nova were the games on the Mac that you just couldn't put down? And do you remember thinking to yourself, "Self, this EV stuff would be amazing if only I could play it online with a bunch of other folks"? Well, EVE Online is pretty much EV all grown up.
Of course, it's not a Mac-first game, and as a result, I find the interface a bit kludgy, but once you get used to the UI, it's actually a pretty darn fun game.
I'm going to be checking it out more over the course of the trial, and at the end I'll decide if I'm sticking with World of Warcraft or switching to EVE Online (can't swing two subs).
If you want to check it out, go sign up and download the Mac client, and post your thoughts in here.
I was going to put this in the Games forum, but when I saw no mention of it there nor here (at least on the front pages), I figured I'd stick with the [MA] and it could be moved if necessary.

Re: EVE Online?
EVE Online has gotten a fair amount of coverage in Gaming, including here, recently. A move is probably in order.

Re: EVE Online?
I played eve for like a little over a month (on one of my many "this is it i'm quitting wow for good this time!" occasions) and I must say it is a solid game. It is a little bit slow paced at first but once you get crackin and get those skill points its pretty awesome. I maintain that dreadnaughts are the most impressive and awe inspiring things in any video game.
...but hey, what do I know

Industrial, Blockade Runner, Transport, Jump Freighter, or Freighter?

Yup, we are.
CCP actually fosters that by having little or no printed documentation. You are forced to join a player guild asap just to learn how the game works.
Check EVE University. They're a corp specifically for that, I think the leadership is partially CCP staff, but it's not like they'd admit it.

Join my corp, Vice. We're small, highsec, not going anywhere. Our CEO - Konshu - has a habit of mounting the soapbox after 7AM GMT, but he's pretty cool, and he knows, like, everything.

Re: EVE Online?
How 'bout this then?
EVE gets all Steamed up
MMO, EVE is bringing its army of virtual players to Valve's Steam anti-piracy system.
The game will be the first MMO to be delivered over the network, a fact which makes publisher Iceland outfit CCO "immensely excited and honored," apparently.
To "celebrate" the launch gamers already signed to Steam's will be able to faff about in the virtual EVE universe for 21-days for free. By which time they'll be hooked, the cunning chaps at Valve have worked out. µ

I may be misunderstanding what Steam is, but it doesn't seem like a big deal. The game was distributed digitally and auto-patched before. You don't need a serial number to play - there's no single-player version - you have to have an active subscription. And as far as I know, nobody's running a pirated EVE Cluster.
Now, if it comes to be that I can ONLY get a client download through Steam, I'll be pissed.
But it's good publicity.
