Internal mail
Is there anyway of sending emails around my LAN without using the Internet?
I am setting up a mac mini as my network content server and I would like to be able to send it stuff.
Is mail the right thing here or can I simply set it up so it is always visible to the other macs? For that matter could I see the external hdd I have connected to it.
I miss Chooser, that is how long it has been since I have done something like this...

Re: Internal mail
Leopard? If so, it should show up in the Finder. Make sure you have File Sharing enabled in "Sharing" of System Preferences.

Re: Internal mail
My machines are not on Leopard, they are all on 10.4.11. I was considering purchasing Leopard a little while after launch to make sure all you guys have worked out the bugs and can answer my questions.

Re: Internal mail
Is this what you want?
Mac mini:
Open Sharing preference pane
Enable File Sharing
Any other Mac on your network:
From the Finder
command k (go to server)
Browse to your Mac mini
Mac mini user account ID and password
Now you have access to the entire Mac mini HD and connected drives.
Move, copy, view as needed
1/φ = φ-1
Dron't dink and dive.

Re: Internal mail
Weeelll... I have followed the instructions:
System pref>sharing>personal file sharing go to other mac and command k for server... and I can't find the mini?
I ended up finding the mini only after I also Airport menu>create network...on the mini and Airport menu>join network... on the other machine. Is that right?
If it is, it means my machines are no longer on my Airport Express network and are unable to get on the internet therefore after I have streamed a movie etc. I have to reverse the whole Airport menu thing to get to my Airport Express network. This can't be right, can it?
Please help, please!!
PS. I know I can because I just did but does 801.11g cope with streaming movie dvd video_ts files? Whilst I saw it I am unsure if there was a quality drop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You shouldn't have to do that if they were connected to the same network before.

That's the way it works when you create a new network. It's apart from the old one. So it is right as far as that goes.

Straight DVD is 1.4 MB/second. 802.11g's theoretical max throughput is 54 Mb/second, or 6.75 MB/second. Even accounting for typical overhead, 802.11g is probably 50% faster than the minimum you'd need to do that, so stream away.
There shouldn't be a quality drop because it's digital - if the network can't keep up, the video will stutter/stop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You shouldn't have to do that if they were connected to the same network before.
Now I am a little confused.
I was initially on the Airport express base station, does this create a network or is it simply a connection to the internet? And if is it a network, I should see other computers on the network wishing to file share? If this is the case then I can't seem to do it...
