Re: Has Apple lost it's core focus?

Hair more than a speed bump Hair less than a machine.

The most recent Mac Pro revision introduced a new subfamily of Xeon processors that are supposedly more efficient at any given speed as well at bumping the speed, the storage & memory capacity, and video cards. They also slightly altered how one secures the PCIe cards.

And migrated from EFI32 to EFI64 firmware. (Hence the newly introduced graphics cards not working on the older Mac Pros.)

Allegedly Apple is trying to resolve that (provide a EFI32 firmware for people who want the new card)

It's a shame more card makers don't make their cards work in the pros - I'm guessing just not enough demand to pay for the potential tech support, as most macs are integrated graphics.

I heard that, too.

It does help to explain, though, that it is not sheer unwillingness to sell the new cards to existing customers, though.

Re: Has Apple lost it's core focus?

Most PCs use integrated graphics as well. But they sell many more overall. The largest supplier of graphics chips with the most marketshare is Intel. Though if you can wait a bit, the next integrated chipset from Intel is supposed to support DX10 and be considerably faster, though their current chips are rather slow, so little comfort there.

It would be nice if standard graphics cards worked in the Mac. Apple charges a lot for upgrades.
