Favorite sounds
I was working outside today and started thinking about all the sounds around us every day. Some drive us nuts, some are downright enjoyable to listen to. So what's your favorite sounds?
Personally, I love the sound of a tractor running, both at idle and at WOT under load. There's nothing quite like the sound of a huge diesel engine lugging down. Even semi's can't make that noise because they don't lug them quite like a farm tractor (and they have a much larger muffler!) I was informed by my neighbors that my 1066 International can be heard from 3 miles away when I am plowing or chopping hay. I love it!
I also like the sound of my cat purring up a storm when she is napping nearby. Its so rhythmic that it nearly puts me to sleep at times.
So, what do my fellow forum members like?

Yeah, cat purring is a great one. My cat puts me out like a light all the time with his purring.
I also like the sound of my action cycling on my Saiga. But nothing compares to the sound of a jet taking off.
Musically, a 4-3 suspension will send a chill up my spine every time. I love those. So will a huge choir.

Yes, nothing compares to the sound of a jet taking off when you're trying to sleep, or hold a conversation, or...

I enjoy hearing the birds in the springtime when the sun comes up. It's peaceful.
I like hearing the thud-thud-thud-thud of my chihuahua and my cat playing tag through the house.

If you're hearing a jet taking off, you have to be near an airport...

Edit: Mudo beat me to it.
I forgot to mention that the sounds of cows eating is awesome. I have dozed off sitting in the middle of the feeders outside just listening to the cows eat the big bale and rock it around as they do. Kinda sucks when they decide you are a potential food source though. Lets just say cows have rough tongues...

I used to live in Virginia Beach. One of the malls there is practically next door to Oceana Naval Air Station. Imagine sitting at the food court and hearing jets do passes over the mall every ten minutes.

Rain, when it's coming on top of you and you're under a roof or umbrella or something.
An orchestra, when they're tuning, one of the best sounds ever.
**edit: coincidentally, also the default startup sound for the PS3. I bubbled with glee when I first heard it.

I love the sound of horses shuffling in barns, the way they breathe and softly nicker. I feel very at home and alive when I am around barn animals - despite never having owned one or ever lived on a farm.
I also love my dog's bark. He bays like a true hound even though he's a mix, and it's just the funniest loudest arooo you've ever heard. It fits him perfectly.
The last sounds that really makes me smile and feel good inside is the sound of a heartbeat. I love laying next to someone and hearing their heart beat or just practicing for my cardiology units in school so I can listen to recorded heart beats. There's something very soothing about it.

The rain or the thunder? I personally like both.
