Voltage change in iMag G3
I'm working on a headless iMac G3 (slot loading 500MHz) mod, and I'm almost done. It boots up, but the video image off of the connector I made is wonky, with ghosting and purplish lines coming from the left side of the screen. I read here that this might be fixed by supplying -10v to the iMac video connector. The poster there mentioned using "2/3 diodes" to change the -12v from an ATX power supply to -10v. Can anyone explain how to do this? Or, if not this way, some other way? I'm adverse to ordering single components online as the shipping is usually really expensive. Thanks

Re: Voltage change in iMag G3
Okay, no activity, but I have a safety/electronics question. If I take a +5v line from the PSU, then add a 0.166ohm resistor to that, the effective voltage of the line would be 2v? (the PSU runs the 5v at 12 amps) If I then take this 2v line and attach it to the -12v line, then attach both lines to the -10v pin on the iMac, would this work out? My physics teacher thinks I'll blow up the power supply, but he hedges this with he doesn't know much about EE. My revised question is, is this safe and correct?

Re: Voltage change in iMag G3
Sorry, I was a bit tired when I posted the reply. The iMac video connector has a pin that is labelled for -10v. To provide this, a poster on Applefritter suggested using the -12v source on an ATX power supply. I was wondering how he proposed to do this. After discussing my problem (getting -10v from -12v) with my friends, or suggested changing a positive voltage (+5v in this case) to +2v using a resistor, then connect the -12v wire and the now +2v wire to get -10v. I was wondering if this is reasonably safe, as my physics teacher looked at the idea and thought it would blow something up.
