Removing programs from MacBook

Is it really as easy as dragging the program from the HD to the Trash Can and emptying the Trash Can.  Seems to simple for me.

Is there something I'm missing?

All comments welcome, including the ones about how silly this question is.

Re: Removing programs from MacBook

Yep, for all intents and purposes it's as simple as that.

If you ran an installer to install an application there might be an Uninstall option bundled with it. That will remove any additional stuff like support files that live in your Library Folder (or elsewhere). But it doesn't really matter if you don't use it, those things are not going to do any harm - just take up a (minimal) amount of space.

So it would be true to say that just dragging an app to the trash might not get rid of all the program - but then again 'Add/Remove Programs' in Windohs doesn't do that either.

You might also want to check the Preferences folder for lingering files.

It is an odd thing, but every one who disappears is said to be seen at San Francisco. It must be a delightful city, and possess all the attractions of the next world.

Re: Removing programs from MacBook

Well, there might be addtional steps. If the program involved something that must be run at start up/log in (such as the Palm Desktop), then you will have to remove them from your account's start up procedure (System Preferences> Accounts, click on Startup Items then select and delete as needed), but only if you mind OS X coming up every time you log in with a message saying that certain programs (those that you deleted by dragging them to the Trash) cannot be found.

Don't forget  Library>Application Support.

Computers never do what you want them to do; only what you tell them to do.

AppZapper

AppZapper allows you to confidently uninstall virtually any application as easily as it was installed -- just drag and drop. Drag one or more unwanted apps onto AppZapper and watch as it finds all the extra files and let's you delete them with a single click. A slick safety system remembers which apps you want to keep safe, and the log tracks all the files you've zapped. Put simply, AppZapper is the uninstaller Apple forgot.
