Linking 2 Macs

I recently started an in house graphic design dept. for a company and we are the only 2 Macs in the building. I need to be able to access files from the other and vice versa. They are both brand new G5s purchased in October. Is there a fairly easy way for me to do this? We are not on the shared drive or network with the rest and only share internet connections. I am by no means technically savvy, so I would more than likely need a very dumbed down explanation of how to do this and what equipment I would need. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Re: Linking 2 Macs

it might be easier to put your files up on the "shared drive"

Yeah, even if the shared drive is on a Windows Server, you should be able to access it without a problem.

Re: Linking 2 Macs

That probably would not have been an option. Our IT guy is a Mac hater and doesn't want to put forth any effort into learning it or trying to help me. Anyway, with a little trial and error and some research, I was able to figure it out on my own. Sorry if I wasted your time, but I do appreciate the quick replies. Thanks.

oh, and check if you can access one Mac from the other via FTP, then enable file sharing.
otherwise upload the files to a trusted site, then download it with the other Mac.

Re: Linking 2 Macs

Yeah, he made some smart ass comment my second day about how Mac users usually have to learn how to troubleshoot their own computers (because he couldn't hook me up to their printer, yes that's right, their printer) because nobody gives a damn so they have to learn. Oh well ignorance is bliss, right? smile

It works great for our needs. I can access her desktop, she can access mine, that's really all I needed them to do. I apologize if I made it sound more extensive than it actually needed to be.

That's really stupid.

Side note: How can people who don't know how to open the system prefs on a mac to add a printer breathe on their own?

because they overcomplicate the Mac habitually, because of their long time exposure to toxins such as Windows.

Naw, it's because they can't figure out Windows wizards and control panels.

"There were places in the world commemorating those times when wizards hadn't been quite as clever [as to refrain from doing magic when you knew how easy it was], and on many of them the grass would never grow again."  Terry Prachett

There are 3 types of people, those who can count and those who can't.
