I read every post in this thread to make sure that the 9/7/08 confirmed date was mentioned.

Now that I know, I'll move on.  I have faith that it will release on that date because we're talking about EA, the supreme deity of the "slave-driver game developer" world.  It'll come out because they'll make life hellish as "motivation."

But it will be too buggy to be playable untill january.

Honestly are they going to get their money back?  Most of my friends didn't like the new Sims stuff, Black and White came and went.  Plus this game sounds long as hell, and WoW has the attention of most long term based gamers (at least by my analysis, I'm sure Bat will correct my statistics.)

Sims was huge, and still is - and while WoW has about 10 million active and inactive subscribers, Second Life has 20 Million.

The Sims sold 16 million copies. The series, including expansions, has sold 90 Million boxes.

Some interesting numbers in there.

Sims appeals to casual gamers because, unlike WoW, if I dig my old computer out and fire up Sims 2, all my characters will still be right where I left them, all their friends and social networks intact. I can game on MY terms, unlike an MMO.

Re: Spore to be simultaneous release

The Sims was huge, I'm talking what of Sims 2, and the latest expansions, and I work in Second Life for some research, 20 million account is iffy, you've got maybe 500,000 tops active.  And even those numbers are questionable with the amount of alt accounts people have.  But it's around in there.

We will see what the sales are like, the only appeal something like Spore or Sims has over WoW for someone like me is the timeframe as you mentioned dvpierce.  I don't have to set aside three hours to raid a dungeon, don't have to be on everyday for daily quests, etc.
