Say it again, say it aga, say it aga

For some reason M|LF has been doing something weird for me lately, though I've never seen it as bad as it has been this morning.

I'll make a post, and it will successfully make it onto the board... but then it'll keep posting truncated copies of my post again and again for some unspecified duration.

It almost seems as though it's until the next post in the topic, but I just saw one where it kept happening after someone else posted.

I spent 20 minutes deleting truncated posts in the MiniThink dolphin thread.

Has anyone else noticed this happening to them?  Does anyone have any idea how to make it stop?

There's an instance of it here:

http://www.maclife.com/forums/post/1531602#p1531602

They showed up again and again as I deleted and deleted for ten minutes.  I finally gave up and tried another post, which seems to have stopped it.

QFT.

No choice at the time.  Still, it's worth noting that it never happens on Firefox on my Macs.

And it's never happened with IE6 or 7 on a 4 year old install of XP on a machine not on a UPS but been thru lightning strikes, multiple power interruptions etc. So much for problem source and truth.

I think it's just you, oats. smile

They may be right. It might just be you.

Have you been watching any episodes of Star Trek that involve evil twins?

No, but I did notice this really handsome guy walking around. Not sure the beard suited him...

Incidentally, it just happened again, only this time I was creating a thread.

Re: Say it again, say it aga, say it aga

This is only when you are using Firefox on XP correct?

I've been doing some testing and so far I haven't had any luck recreating the issue but I will see if there is a known bug within the forum software that needs patching.

EDIT: What service pack do you have on your XP machine and which version of firefox are you using?

Only the Tantalus plugin or one from South Park. Oats is now Evil Cartman...

(Wait, Mirror Cartman is good. I'm so confused. http://homepage.mac.com/oatmeal/MAF/maxes/worry.gif)

Anyway, oats, you shouldn't use Firefox to try to make Bill disappear. Most of his friends [dramatic pause]... are Vulcans. http://homepage.mac.com/oatmeal/MAF/maxes/omg.gif

Re: Say it again, say it aga, say it aga

Near as I can figure it, it seems to be a strange symptom of another website hanging.

The network I'm using when this happens doesn't seem to like another mac site, and about 1 time in 10 it freezes while loading pages.  When that happens, other pages I'm opening in tabs stop loading properly.  If I happen to be posting at M|LF at the time, it may or may not load the full post, but then keeps trying to do it.

The really weird thing, the thing that would seem to throw that explanation right out the window, is that it keeps happening even after I've closed the M|LF tab.  I can't figure that one out - it doesn't seem like that's actually the browser, that would seem to be a server issue.  It's why I posted it here.

In a manner of speaking, though he might say it was de-ported. However as active as he's been, I'd say they've ported him again.

Perhaps you can trying copying your post, then closing the browser completely and restarting if you trigger that. It seems to be caught in a some kind of loop or freeze once the other site freezes up, and the whole browser needs to re-init.

No clue about the diminishing iterations, tho, unless the browser is, in effect, posting repeatedly without 'realizing' it's already succesfully done so, and purging some text each time.
