My statistics professor's words, not mine, so please don't take it personally - gambling is a tax on the mathematically challenged.
EDIT: He was trying to be funny, but I think it's true. Hey if I wanna throw my money away, I'll just hit the internet and go shopping!

Well, yes, if you're gambling with the belief that you seriously are going to make any amount of money.
There are those of us who gamble because the thrill is fun and hey, sometimes you come out ahead. It's not a problem until it starts taking over your life and bank accounts.

Re: Doubling up at Casinos...
I agree. Most people do it for the excitement. Most know when to quit. Still, I personally have a hard time putting my money into something that won't give back.
I'm a glass-is-half-empty person and I don't usually consider something worth it if it doesn't have results.

I would gamble for the fun/thrill of it.
I also understand why the idea I described doesn't work. Wikipedia said that theoretically, someone with unlimited money could win 100% of the time. <-- That made me finally understand.
Now I need to learn to card count... can't be that hard.

They've been doing this longer than you've been alive. You think they haven't figured out ways to identify most card counters?
You think you're smarter than they are?

Uh huh. Well, realize that you are by no means the first person with the desire to beat the casinos at the games they themselves run. With all that competition against the casinos, how do you figure they stay in business? Isnt it the fact that the competition to beat the casinos is exactly the way the casinos make their money?

Card count playing what?
Most blackjack tables are played with several decks, and the ones that aren't generally deal the cards face down, in my experience.

A better way to beat a casino and come out with more than you entered is to buy an elvis suit and learn a few guitar chords.

Re: Doubling up at Casinos...
A way to understand the original question:
Let's say we're going to bet black four times in a row on a wheel in a small room that only allows the gambler and the operator.
I go in, bet three times and come out. I don't tell you if I won or lost.
You go in and make the fourth bet. What are your odds of winning?
