I'd like to agree, but i don't. Just take a look at this thread.
Of the 24 responses, 15 are from current or former mods and some of those posts are from the same people. Of the remaining 9 posts, there are 8 members that posted bringing a grand total of 17 different posters that actually care enough that the forums have been around 9 years to respond to that thread.
That's very certainly because people just don't hang around in "Forum Feedback"...
For instance I care, in spite of not having seen that thread.
Congratulations Macaddict / Maclife. 7 years of my life, it's pretty long considering I'm 28 now.
I hope it's just a calm period, and not death...

Re: Apple Detractors Have Killed This Forum
This was the first forum I joined and regularly participated in. I stuck through the great crash, the switch to PunBB, the introduction of ads, and the alleged overmoderation (which I didn't have a problem with, personally), and more ads. My favorite times here were when we were doing photochops
Then I lost my broadband for a couple years, and dang it's hard to do even a forum with dialup. I guess I never got back into the swing after that; new interests, new job, and all that.
I've joined a few other forums in the meantime, but what has sucked the joy out of this place for me was the switch fom MAF to M|LF, and the continuing neglect of the UI. The forum was made 'just functional enough', and left at that. Any attempts by M|LF staff and M|LF forum members to try and fix what appear to be some serious but very easily resolved issues has been spurned by Imagine. Treatment like that is bound to sour anybody's outlook.
I think it is a testament to the strength of this community that it has continued at all, in light of this fact. But I fear that it is going to just fade away as people like me find other online communities where we can feel like we are part of the process and general well being of the place (ie, 'community'), and not just end users or participants.

LOL.
That's such a ridiculous post! If geekette feels a sense of community enough to comment on it, who are you to tell her she's wrong?
I mean, if I said I had a stomachache, would you tell me I didn't?
Honestly, this is the funniest thing I've seen all day. (Why are you still here again?)

You can call it Mac and Cheese just as long as you enjoy the forums.

Re: Apple Detractors Have Killed This Forum
Seriously, if we weathered the 90's Apple detractors when Apple had one foot in the grave, negativity and Apple bashing shouldn't be much of an issue.
We're a strong bunch, us Apple fans.

just to throw in my two cents here, I don't feel the same sense of there once was when I first joined in here. but I still make this my home for Apple "stuff" as I know the community here and its just... familiar.
That's just me, though.

No, I just don't feel the same sense of community anymore. There are other forums out there that have truly dedicated Mac N' Cheese members whose discussions...
Wait, what were we talking about again?

We're talking about Apple detractors who hate Mac N' Cheese communities.
I really need to go home and eat dinner.

I still read the forums and appreciate them as much as I ever did. The new magazine is dumb, not worth my time or money but I'll keep frequenting M|LF as long as they're up.

Re: Apple Detractors Have Killed This Forum
If anything the thing making the tech discussions tedious is the hive mind Jobs fans who keep their thinking defined by the box Jobs builds for them.
Mac users have always had a bit of the elitist attitude but the last couple of years it has gotten beyond all reason.
"and it's not surprising that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

These forums are dead. No one seems to reply to posts as much as in the past. Something is clearly wrong and this could be the demise of MacAddict, uh, I mean MacLife forums.
