Powermac 9500 MP and OS X?
I acquired a '95 Powermac 9500 tower that had a Daystar Dual 250 MHZ MP 604e card installed. I'm curious to know how well that would work with OS X, using XPostFacto. Anyone use one of these?
Based on the findings of the report, my conclusion was that this idea was not a practical deterrent for reasons which at this moment must be all too obvious.

You'd be the first I'd heard of trying.
From the XPostFacto site on OWC.
Mac OS X 10.3 (and later) require a G3 or G4 CPU upgrade on models that did not originally come with a G3 or G4.
The 9500MP and 9600MP work, but only one processor is active.
So, that would be a deal killer, methinks.
Maybe some variety of Linux will give you multi-processor goodness?

I have original X 10.1 disks too. I wonder if those would do better for this, since I don't have a CPU upgrade? I haven't really gotten into Linux though.

It's too bad that only one processor works. I think X on a single 250mhz would be problematic....

And is it even capable of running a 604 PPC CPU? I also have 300 MHZ from a 9600 I wondee if that would be better, but it's still a 604 or 604e.

BeOS!

A 250 MHz 604e would comfortably hold its own against a 233 MHz G3. And plenty of people (have) run OS X on that.

I'm not sure running on one processor would be that big of deal. I don't know about this specific upgrade card, but wasn't most stuff asymmetric multi-processing then?
Also, make sure you have plenty of RAM. -I'm sure that goes without saying, but I also recall something about the 9500's not recognizing both processors if virtual memory was being used.
