zOMG!!110111
Life is soooo much sweeter without my ancient (8 years old) router!
I had a MacSense Xrouter dealie that I hated to give up on, but my internet connection has become increasingly unstable over the last year in an exponential fashion. Not all at once, but a friend had indicated increasing failures with what he attributed to our mutual ISP.
I, figuring a router is a router no matter what, was completely willing to attribute the subsequent failures to the ISP.
...until, the most recent increase had me resetting things a couple times a day.
The increase in failure rate finally made me try something new. I pulled the "old trustworthy" Xrouter and replaced it with a D-Link wireless router I was relegating to the furthest location from the street I could think of, and VOILA!
No failures in the last 5 days. The bonus is that speed has increased close to the ISP's stated Max rate.
DAMMIT!!! Oh well. Live and loin.
The moral of the story is, don't be so damn quick to blame your ISP for failure rates, when you really haven't done that much on your end to diagnose the problems, even if another person suggests it is probably the ISP you have in common, and that "known good" hardware may not actually be handy, but is always important in deciding the solution.
...and watch out for the flying meat!

I learned that with my old D-Link and Xplornet.
Problem was, with TELUS DSL, it worked fine

I had previously held Xsense/MacSense up as a shining example since you could actually show other people the interface by pointing them to the appropriate Xsense/MacSense web page.
Their current products may be fine for some folks, but anything in the Xrouter/aero product line should b suspect if the last firmware update is older than a couple years ago.
I hate it when that happens!
That is planned obsolescents, and ultimately shows a desire on the product owner's part to smurf their previous customers for mo' money, mo' money, mo'.....
I have generally dumped companies that pursue that model, such as SanDisk, Epson, and now MacSense, in favor of any other company that provides a quality product. But, apparently that has little impact on any of these companies going forward, since there appears to be "a sucker born every minute."
Hoo-f-ing-rah for free enterprise and the "invisible hand" that doesn't really f-ing exist.

Which D-Link product? I have the DI-524. I paid about $25 for it at a local "Wish we were walmart" (BB) store, and it is beating the crud out of the $90 Xrouter.
It is not a shock that what you pay now is less than you paid "then", and you get more stuff. It is a shock that a solid state device with upgradable firmware can't out live me.

Re: zOMG!!110111
I've owned two DI-624 routers. One made an annoying high-pitched whine and neither would work with any of my computers if the router's most-recent firmware was installed.
I don't think I'll ever buy a D-Link router again.
