Flashing a radeon 9200??

Ok, I'm planning on buying a 9200 pci for my b&w g3. I would rather save $50 and buy a pc version and just flash it. the problem is i can't find any info on how to flash it anywhere.

if someone can direct me to a how-to, it'd be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

Re: Flashing a radeon 9200??

Probably will not work. From what I've read, you could flash a PPC compatible Mac video card to PC firmware or flash a PC flashed Mac card back to Mac Firmware but the Firmware for a PPC compatible Mac video card is typically larger than the ROM chip on a PC video card.

Yep, check the Mac Elite. This has been possible for quite some time. Originally they used to flash the 9100s over but it is quite common to see 9200s now as well. Performance wise tho, really isn't a big step up from the R7200s...least in Macs it isn't. You do gain basic shaders but thats about it.

I'd ask the Elite guys that. Regular 7000s are crap cards but if it can handle Divx then it would work. Post on their forums with that question.

Re: Flashing a radeon 9200??

From what I know, the 9200's are hit and miss... I nearly got one to work, but the video is garbled and that was with an OEM ATI card.
There are plenty who have made it work though. Depends on the manufacturer and what sort of ROM chip they use.

If you can spring for the 7200 NC mentioned, you'd be better off. The 8500 is a nice one, too.

Re: Flashing a radeon 9200??

I tried it. When you flash the card it says everything went 100%. Plug it in your Mac and get a gray screen.

ScifiterX is correct. It's a ROM issue, as in space for data. The Windows version has a smaller ROM chip and cannot hold all of the Mac ROM data.

I eventually splurged and got the Mac version. Nice upgrade if you also get a CPU upgrade. It still pisses me off that they charge so much more for what is essentially the same damn card.
