Seven years ago...
I was reading my favorite Mac rag. There was an article about playing my new favorite game with the staff. Online I went to investigate this fun idea...seven years ago today.
I had hoped to have a gift ready but it's not polished enough yet. In memory of MA1, the staff, Clan OSX and all the great times in UT I'm currently resurrecting CTF-Boxy for UT3. Yeah a simple map to cut my teeth on the new UEd 3. After that I hope to bring the other favorites forward too (i.e. Mortal Metal). The [MA]Goes211 Map Pak will live again.

I think I did the same thing as you, judging by my sign up date. The first map I played was CTF-Face...

I forgot my first. Well I remember it but I don't recall the name. Yeah the perfect one night stand.

I remember running around and dying A LOT! My first headshot was Ripper spam. Couldn't tell what team I was on...The perfect Noobsauce.
::EDIT::
Looking back it was classic Deer in the headlights my first online play.

Same here, but I don't think I signed up on the forums for another couple months.
... And then the game consumed my life for the following 18 months

BJShan, Wang, GaryGarlic, Col. Panic, Sifl and Phead are WoW whores now. Haven't seen'em since they moved off Whisperwind. Groid moved to Chicago a few weeks ago. He and I watched the Daytona 500 together. That's most of |X| squad accounted for. DocB is still around. I see Og on XBL but he won't take any of my invites.
Cee popped his head into [MA]General a couple days ago.
Monday AT&T is coming out to upgrade me to 6Mb/s and We're going with their new U-verse TV service. Weee I can host again! **hint hint**

I guess I should stop messing around with the demo and get the full thing.
Those were some damn good times.
I miss everyone on ircle, ichat kinda blew up that whole scene... there was some funny stuff on there.
I ran across DocB randomly when I saw his avatar on a digg comment...sure enough it was him.

Nah Wang is still around on WW. I've seen his alts a few times. The others I have no idea. They left in the first transfer. Heard that server was shutdown tho so I have no idea where they went from there.

Re: Seven years ago...
CTF-Face probably wasn't my first, but it and -LavaGiant became where I spent an awful lot of time when I wasn't Team DMing on a few whose names I do forget ATM, but would quickly remember.
One of the funner things I recall from early was playing a botmatch high atop a mountain, and getting increasingly perplexed at the end when nothing was happening. Eventually I used 'Fly' to look around, and after much searching found the last bot at the base of the map, hundreds of virtual feet below, but 'alive,' having fallen off but sliding down w/out dying. That game never got a proper end.
(Ah, and all those stats it could generate. I bet I still have some somewhere...)

I haven't had very good luck with my new PC. Last weekend was my third OS install since like Christmas. Blew all of Jan. and some of Feb. on Mass Effect. I hope to be hitting UT3 hard now.

I think Epic should scrap the entire UT3 codebase, and give us UT99 with purtier graphics

I've been saying that since 2k
Its all the vehicle combat crap. They tried to copy Halo, and it has backfired.

No, no- it's because PC gaming is in disarray. Don't you listen to CliffyB?
Mark Rein [s]promises[/s] [s]hopes[/s] assures us it's really doing OK on PC, and will sell tons on the consoles once the bugs are worked out on PC- er, once they get it working on that darned Cell CPU. Honest... or Epic will rename itself GoWWorks Unlimited and wait for 32-core CPUs to bring back software rendering in UE4.
(Btw, I checked Ryan Gordon's .dot plans. No mention of GoW or UT3 for Mac for about 5 months now).

Sigh...Don't like it, don't play it. All the old game types are there. DM, TDM, CTF. Not like there's nothing else offered.
