Mac G4 800MHz QuickSilver

Some one gave me a Mac G4 800MHz quicksilver. Either the power supply is bad or the mobo is bad. Maybe both is bad. Change the battery and reset the pmu. The power button light comes on, but not the mobo light, and the fan does spin. No meter to test the power supply. Any ideas?

No MOBO light, but the power supply comes on? Sounds like a bad MOBO, possibly.

If you have another QS G4 power supply you could test it to be sure it's not the PS; other then that I'm not sure.

having had a QS 2002 whose MOBO I blew up with by putting RAM in backwards, iy sounds like a bad MOBO.  Try this.  Open the case and hit the power button.  If the the MOBO light flashes on for a second or so. then that's the problem.

Re: Mac G4 800MHz QuickSilver

Still it's cheaper to find a PC case first and try that power supply on the Mac. I've had luck with some fitting some macs (not remembering anything in particular working with a certain model of mac though)

i had a friend mod his PowerMac G4 / 500 Mhz (previous to your tower) with a PC power supply and he said that he couldn't put it to sleep; and that was it. he did, however have to cut a few wires and reconfigure them.
